Re: New Gradius in the works?
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH!
*ahem*
Glad to see they're doing something to celebrate the series' 25th anniversary. And yes, quite - I agree. I think the rumblings of a "Gradius VI" a few years back stated or implied that it'd be a PS3 game, but as I won't be able to afford one of those for quite some time, I'm also hoping this one will end up on the 360. Wherever it ends up, though, it's more Gradius, which is always A Good Thing. In fact, I hope it's a coin-op, 'cause then there'll be less chance of a decent play being a sweaty-palmed, beady-eyed two-hour marathon.
Edit: someone on Gamestone mentioned that it sounds like a collection. I suppose they could be using 'arc' in the sense of narrative progression, in which case he could be onto something.

Re: New Gradius in the works?
Yay Gradius! Would be sweet if it was Treasure again.
What I'd like to see:
Gradius Gaiden weapons/customisable tech tree.
Get rid of lives and have upgradeable shields, or make death not so hopeless.
Hidden Parodius characters.
That's it!

Re: New Gradius in the works?
Is it related to this then?
http://www.ps3arc.com/
That would indicate PS3 exclusive, I'd imagine. Unless its just coincidence.

Re: New Gradius in the works?
Trademarks don't generally mean something new's in the works, right? A new (Treasure'd) Gradius for 360 would be incredible, though.
Re: New Gradius in the works?
It's good to see any Gradius-related trademark. I'm still hoping they deliver on that trademark of Salamander Rebirth while we wait for the next big one.
Re: New Gradius in the works?
I had the same initial thought - I hope they don't mess with the shmup forumla by tried to add motion controls.......Is it related to this then?

Please just a pure, new, "next gen" Graduis......
Don't just dodge bullets, dance around them.
Re: New Gradius in the works?
You know, I'd be just as happy if it was for PSP/Wii/DS - Gradius Gaiden is still the prettiest game in the series. Making it for a HD system would mean that they'd really have to go polygonal, and to make it look good within the budget limitations they'd have to opt for more sterile environments instead of more interesting organic ones. That was my one ding against Gradius V - and in HD it would be worse.

Oof, looks like it could have something to do with this. I daren't think of the implications...

Anyone else have the horrible feeling this going to be a 3d game with motion controls?

If it turns out that it's because it ties in with Cosmic Ark instead, I'll buy it day one.

Re: New Gradius in the works?
I'm a bit concerned. A 2D Gradius might not work well with this IMO.
If it were for the Arc controller, it could probably be something like Solar Assault - or maybe the Arc could be used in a 2D game like Otomedius' touch screen function for some kind of targeted attack. Shame the 360 didn't have Natal when Otomedius came out - hopefully Konami ends up deciding to make a Natal patch for this one, so you can point at the screen for something closer to the arcade (Natal can track models that identify individual fingers).

Kinect? KIN NOT.
Re: New Gradius in the works?
I'll take another Gradius Rebirth over another like Gradius V to be honest. I hope they make it like that. What ever happened to Salamander Rebirth anyway?
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Re: New Gradius in the works?
I hope it not to be related with Sony's magic wand. Please konami give the 360 owners a bit of love with another shooting game, but this time make it a bit better than Otomedius.
Re: New Gradius in the works?
That and "Jackal Rebirth" are still in limbo. Capcom's new old Mega Man game that came out yesterday fills me with hope that more of the retro rebirths will not be one-off situations. Konami should also put out more of their games on the Virtual Console. I like that they gave us Japanese PC-Engine versions of Gradius II and Detana Twinbee but would really like to see them keep the ball rolling with some of those 90s arcade shooters.MathU wrote:I'll take another Gradius Rebirth over another like Gradius V to be honest. Gradius Waggle! http://kotaku.com/5483969/sony--konami- ... ius-coming
You just know this is going to suck balls.

Re: New Gradius in the works?
Considering they've patented Gradius Arc and named the waggle thing after it, chances of it being a launch title with motion controls are high.
Someone pointed out that Gradius in Japanese is written identical to Gladius (which is true), so it might be a different game entirely.

Re: New Gradius in the works?
yeah... we all know treasure fucked up sin and punishment 2 with the wii mote. (sarcasm)You just know this is going to suck balls.
If they used the wand to control the options shooting direction it could work and be interesting. The sony wand is way more precise than the wii-mote, i am interested in a new gradius title and am not gonna huff and puff till I see whats going on.

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Re: New Gradius in the works?
Most optimistic, Elixir! Gradius has very probably been a misspelling of Gladius all along, but aye, it's easier to imagine a brand-new waggly-waggly game involving swords. Here's hoping.

As long as it isn't anywhere near as dreadful as the new Rocket Knight is, I'll be perfectly happy.

Only Sin and Punishment is a 3d on rails shooter where motion controls make perfect sense to control the aiming reticule. I know you're just trying to be optimistic but seriously, that comparison is apples and oranges.Strider77 wrote: yeah... we all know treasure fucked up sin and punishment 2 with the wii mote. Re: New Gradius in the works?
The PS3 Arc would be better for a graphically enhanced port of Tsurugi or Sin & Punishment 2. Hell, even the arcade Castlevania. Just keep it out of Gradius.
Kinect? KIN NOT.
Re: New Gradius in the works?
I kinda sorta see this working. Otomedius has set the stage for this type of thing in a Gradius game. And heck, it's not like Gradius hasn't done the rail shooter thing before (I count three times!). Either way, could work, could suck.Acid King wrote:Only Sin and Punishment is a 3d on rails shooter where motion controls make perfect sense to control the aiming reticule. gameoverDude: Nintendo owns S&P, so there couldn't be a port. Unless you're just dreaming, in which case - dream away!

Re: New Gradius in the works?
I didn't know about S&P being owned by Nintendo, but Treasure could come out with some other game of the same genre. Shame the Wii Perfect Shot doesn't let you mount the Nunchuk for a Guncon 3 type setup.Drum wrote:I kinda sorta see this working. Otomedius has set the stage for this type of thing in a Gradius game. Re: New Gradius in the works?
Wouldn't it effectively still be called Gradius then? I can't imagine Konami would have two separate franchises with almost exactly the same naming.Elixir wrote:Considering they've patented Gradius Arc and named the waggle thing after it, chances of it being a launch title with motion controls are high.
Someone pointed out that Gradius in Japanese is written identical to Gladius (which is true), so it might be a different game entirely.
Edit: Oh and -

Assuming that is an official logo its still Gradius then.
I'm currently thinking either:
A) Its a coincidence - I'd have thought that the first 'launch title' for a casual market type device (see: Wii) wouldn't be a (to the average market) inaccessible, redundant and probably now obscure old franchise but rather something like.....cooking mama. With David Beckham. Unless Gradius Arc is incredibly dumbed down, which it would have to be for a motion controlled shooter?
B)Its a launch title for the ps3 Arc, but its a cheap throw-away download only title costing £2-3 just to demonstrate the controller while people wait for the 'bigger' titles.
Of course while it is relatively obscure etc outside of Japan I'd imagine a lot of Japanese gamers would still at be fond of Gradius, thus B) is probably a bit more plausible, and maybe even Japan exclusive.
Re: New Gradius in the works?
^^I wouldn't call Gradius obscure...
