Star Trigon and its ass kicking-ness (port?)

Post by Tomtom »

So, the other night I played this game at PaCrappa's place. At the time, I thought it was a fun game. For the last few days, though, I've been repeatedly thinking about it, and would really like to try and seek it out if it has had a console port or has been/will be emulated (it has Dreamcast written all over it...)

Anyway, the game involves your character orbiting around planets. The sole control you have is when you press the A button, the ship will fly off at whatever angle you were going, dragging a line behind you. If you get this line to form a triangle between planets, the space gets filled in and these little guys floating in space get rescued.

Oh, and the music is great, too. Is there an OST release?

Actually, that game runs on Namco System 10, which is pretty much a Playstation. I could see it sneaking it's way into a Driller game as an unlockable since it was developed by Project Driller. That would be awesome.

Have they emulated ZN1/System 10?

Er... these posts were in the Game Insomnia thread for some reason that I couldn't quite determine, so I split the topic.

I got the Star Trigon pcb as well (after reading pacrappa raving about it in a driller thread). It was definately an unexpected hit when I pulled it out at the last shmupmeet. Very cool game.

I found out about this a while back from PaCrappa and have been hooked ever since.

I haven't found a single person yet that's had a go at my place and didn't like it. A home version as an extra in a new Driller game would be awesome indeed.

I like it, too, the game is great fun.

however, I don't like those short "skill"-based levels, which take overhand on the maniac course. They are not interesting gameplaywise and throw the game's pace off balance. That's why I keep sticking to the regular course.

the PCB is cheap btw, I paid under 70 $ some weeks ago. excellentcom doesn't list it, but they were able to find it in a couple of days' time.

I think mine was like $80 or so at G-Front or MAK. I can't remember.

I like the Maniac levels. Now that I've one lifed every bit of it except the maniac with every character, I'm not left with much besides improving times/scores and well, getting my ass handed to me by the maniac levels.

This game is tied with all of the Mr Driller games as Best Game of All Time. Basically, if you can't get with Star Trigon, you are a hater.

Pa

PS: I doubt that there is an OST. Tom, next time you come over we'll have to hit some Driller. Those games also have crazy music and I do have the OST.

I had mine running for a bit, at the last AZ meet, too (we then proceded to play Mr. Driller G. - Race vs. mode for hours, litterally)! And yes, everybody thought it was great. So many people don't even know this great game exists. I have an arcadia or two that has some coverage of it. I got mine off YAJ for a whopping 2000yen. Sicknasty ;)

Wow man, you definitely win! I have that one ST poster from Arcadia on my wall. These Project Driller games simply have the greatest design aesthetic and artwork ever in the entire history of the universe, evar.

I was a Fanitsu in paradise and you were my guide. Best day of my life, easily. Funny thing is, in the shop, I had no idea how to play the game. The shopkeeps knew it too and were sort of chuckling 'with' me. Funny scene.

BTW JJ, Edward Tingles recently moved in. We're gearing up for getting down. Chapter 3 is going to be a barnburner. Onward and upward!

I'm almost tempted to jump into PCBs for this title alone, from the way you speak of it. Well, this and Pacrappa being a fellow Mr Driller enthusiast. Beside that, is the BGM great as the G one?

The PCB is dirt cheap. Average price is about 3000 yen. I got one -- it's great.

3000 yen ~= $30, no?

I'll have to get this and Driller G at some point.

HAHA, no. The avatar is a painting of a photograph of Wanderlei Silva after a particularly rough fight with Dan Henderson.

Nice photo! Those shops don't allow it so JAPJAC had to sneak one as I was forking over the loot. That really was a crazy day. Almost brings a tear to the eye seeing all that arcade treasure in one room.

If any of you guys would like a unique look at Japan, JAPJAC has started several threads with photographic documentation of his and BA0005's exploits in the wild. TGS, jamma shows, visits to Nintendo HQ, Disneyworld's craziest fucking arcade in the entire universe, playing darts for a Famicom against an aging salaryman, lovely Japanese ladies, visits from American and English Fanitsus and more await. All this Star Trigon talk got me thinking so I popped out up town (Tokyo) and purchased (not 'picked up'-why does everyone say that? Sounds like a whore) a brand spanking new never been opened still factory sealed Jap PCB Kit by Namco:

i'm using an usb-joypad & a little program called "JoyToKey", because by default only [return], [space] & [mouse-button] are useable

works perfectly for me

Cool...might check this out. My only complaint is once you clear all the modes it gets rather repetitive. Fun game -- better than Driller.

There's an iPhone version as well, which costs more than $4.99 last I checked.
