Need to have computer repaired--best way to hide passwords?
Need to have computer repaired--best way to hide passwords?
I need to have my computer worked on, but am not in love with the idea of clearing all my passwords (or deleting all my bookmarks). I'm currently using chrome. Any EASY solution?

What kind of problem do you have that you can't fix by yourself?

It's a notebook and I need to replace one of the fans and change out the DVD drive. Because it is a laptop I feel a little uncomfortable doing those things. If it was just the DVD drive I'd go buy an external, but the thing constantly overheats and I have to run a over it to keep it working.

-Find out where Chrome saves your bookmarks/passwords (or just all the appdata)
-Cut those files out, use an encrypter like truecrypt and just remember the pass for that.
Technologically impaired method:
Write down all your passwords/bookmark url's and then just delete chrome

How about you create another account on your computer and put a strong password on the one you normally use? Your account's bookmarks, passwords and personal settings can't be accessed by the other account unless you share them.
Edit: this is true of Firefox and IE and probably of Chrome too, but I can't tell you 100% for that one since I don't use it.

This. Also, encrypt that account, even if it's just ordinary NTFS encryption. Or at least the Chrome data folder.UnscathedFlyingObject wrote:How about you create another account on your computer and put a strong password on the one you normally use? Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

It's not hard to do, just find a screwdriver for eyeglasses.
They don't need your HD to fix the fans.

Very tempted on the HD. I think I actually pulled it out manually when I was looking to see if I could change out the DVD drive. I knew Seagate was a type of hard drive. Man, easy decision.

Most of the times the fan is just jammed from dust.
Maybe you don't even need a new fan.

if you don't mind mind taking stuff apart, just blow the dust out of your fan and get your self a cooling stand. main problem with laptop cooling is not getting enough air flow under the unit to help dissipate the heat. i use one from targus http://www.targus.com/us/product_detail ... sku=PA243U. you can use it like they show in the picture if you want it in your lap, or you can fold it in half like a wedge if you have your laptop on a flat surface ( looks more like this one when used in that manner http://www.targus.com/us/product_detail ... sku=PA241U)
dvd drive swap is fairly straightforward as well. usually if you google your laptops name and what you're trying to replace, chances are someones posted a tutorial you can follow.
