Cave Future plans
Re: Cave Future plans
I have absolutely no idea what happened in this thread other than what was on the last page, so bear with me.
I like the idea of a Cave vertical run-n-gun, maybe even a horizontal one, though I was imagining something kind of like the Ibara universe...steampunk stuff and everything. Maybe even involving a little bit of steampunk mecha, I dunno. I liked the stuff in Ibara.
That would mean that the jetpack would have to be a helicopter pack or something, though. I think we could go without it entirely, though, since we're not talking about taking DDP and turning it into Metal Slug, it's more like taking Metal Slug and turning it into DDP. In other words, you're not going to have swarms of similar bullets, you're going to have a fair number of bullets with rather complex programming and behavior. Things like splash damage, homing capabilities, and destructibility are all going to be accounted for, right?
As for going vertically, that would be another excellent idea. It would be cool if there was navigable cover like in OutZone, that way you can hide from enemy shots and all, and you could have the whole hold-to-fix-aim thing to make it even better.
Perhaps dodge rolls or jumps like in Shock Troopers and Commando: Steel Disaster could help in manic shmup situations as well. I dunno. I like the sound of all this.

Re: Cave Future plans
Sorry to bump this thread but I do this because as mentioned before, Cave plans are to release 4 titles for xbox 360 this year and we now kn ow 3 of them: Espgaluda II, Guwange and Death Smiles 2. Wich game could be the fourth??
Let's bring up the speculation again.
My thoughts are his new IP for xbox 360 and would propably hit before christmas just like Futari by November or so.

Re: Cave Future plans
Considering that DDP-CV is the last IP in Cave's collection that they hold dearly to their heart, would it be nice if they did re-release it for sale worldwide in PCB format? Or are they afraid that it be hacked and playable in Mame within weeks after it's intial PCB release? I'm sure some heavy duty encryption shouldn't be too hard to implement if Cave were to do so. Wouldn't it be nice to convert a plain vanilla DDP PCB into an DDP-CV variant PCB? Still is regarded as the one elusive PCB title that the hardcore Cave fans want in their own personal stash. Alas, that day still hasn't arrived yet. ^_~spadgy wrote:Seeing that get a 360 release would be amazing, and perhaps make sense from a localised publishing point of view. It's Cave's most well know IP/brand internationally, but its a effectively a new release, in terms of how many of us have played it. They wouldn't have to worry too much about loosing sales to the hardcore shmup playing market (us lot), and they might reel in a few extra customers from the more typical hardcore gaming demographic who've heard of Dodonpachi but never invested the time or money (that same userbase who treated themselves to Ikaruga once it got the XBLA release).Dave_K. wrote:DoDonPachi Campaign Version.
Or is Campaign Version untouchable?
Donpachi PCB was the only one that appeared for the USA arcade market courtesy of Atlus USA. The DDP PCB never even appeared in arcades Stateside even though Atlus USA could've distributed the International Version of DDP PCB quite easily.

Re: Cave Future plans
any news on guwange for live yet??
Re: Cave Future plans
Just to summarise, where are we with what we know about Cave's future plans?
• We still don't know the original arcade title right?
• We still don't know what the original 360 title will be?
• One more 2010 360 release is apparently due? (I don't know where the fact four ports are due in 2010 comes from. See Phellan Wolf's post above) If it's four ports, would Ketsui count? If its a quartet of release made from ports and originals, surely the original Xbox 360 game counts as number four?
• Anything yet on this new title on 'original hardware'?
Also - I'm still confused by the first post's news that Cave is working on five new titles. I see three in the list above.

AFAIK, Guwange will be worldwide release
nothing else

Re: Cave Future plans
Apparently Cave had some streaming show on Ustream (http://www.ustream.tv/channel/cave-zadankai) today with Asada ...didn't see it but if it's to believe japanese blogs this was mentioned...
This is not proper translation (anyone wants to help?)
- new ESP Ra.De title in plans
- STG collaboration with other companies (?)
- adventure game that Cave is making now will be filled with mini-games, again in colaborations with other companies
- 2d action title in plans too
- ESPRade/Guwange material collection book in works
- Asada wants copyright rights for Bombuzal
the notes were taken from here

Re: Cave Future plans
Wow if these two are true, that's pretty big news right there. I thought ESPRADE was okay, but a sequel certainly sounds interesting to see how they'll spin it. And from that recent Asada interview from siliconera:- new ESP Ra.De title in plans
- there are colaborations with other STG companies
Further down they say they're not interested working with doujin companies either. So now they took a 180 and are working with some STG companies now?Cave invited Milestone to showcase their shooter at Cave festival this year. As a company are you trying to expand the field for shooters and is Cave thinking about collaborating with other shooter developers?
We don’t have any plans to collaborate with those companies.

Ah it's probably not collaborations with other STG companies, but STG collaboration with other companies, they don't have to be shooting companies...like I said I didn't saw stream, don't know what they actually said.EPS21 wrote:Wow if these two are true, that's pretty big news right there. Re: Cave Future plans
Yeah, cavematsuri has been tweeting a lot... they seem to be contradicting themselves, if the collaboration info is true.
Re: Cave Future plans
Makes more sense, as Cave and Milestone/Moss wouldn't fit together. They could learn from G.Rev though, how to do a 3D game that looks slightly better than Dreamcast.hirounder wrote: Ah it's probably not collaborations with other STG companies, but STG collaboration with other companies, they don't have to be shooting companies...like I said I didn't saw stream, don't know what they actually said.
Maybe they are pissed of because 5pb uses their DOJ/Ketsui port knowledge, to create their own shmup?
The future is 2D
Re: Cave Future plans
It looks like they also mentioned that PS/MMP pack is coming out in February.
Re: Cave Future plans
Collaboration can simply mean they contract some pieces like the 3d modeling, rather than try to do that in house.
Another possible take could be the development of Cave content on someone else's hardware. Love it, but SH3 is starting to get creaky. This could be expressed as a collaboration.

Re: Cave Future plans
Your prolly right, but i do hope its a big developer / publisher thats wanting to bring a popular shmup license back from the dead and they want Cave to do it for them. Just like Treasure with Gradius V.
I wonder what the xbox exclusive is that Cave has been working on

Re: Cave Future plans
A new Esp Ra.De. title sounds awesome.
Cave was recorded as one of the supporting companies for Taito's new hardware model ("NESiCAxLIVE" I think it was called?). So it could be referring to that. I'd rather have Cave never give up on pcbs (SH3), but with how things are for arcades in Japan pcbs are getting to be too much of a risk for arcade operators. Might be cheaper for Cave as well.brentsg wrote:Another possible take could be the development of Cave content on someone else's hardware. Love it, but SH3 is starting to get creaky. Re: Cave Future plans
Asada is saying on his blog that they'll be announcing their next title(s) at the end of this month.

Actually kinda hoping for a revamped and improved Akai Katana Black Label. They put all this effort into a new 2D hori shmup with a cool aesthetic, and I'd rather not see it go to waste.
'Course I'll never get to play it anyway without a console port.

Re: Cave Future plans
Doubtful we'll see a Black Label PCB, but a home port is a given, especially since it's a horizontal game.Estebang wrote:Actually kinda hoping for a revamped and improved Akai Katana Black Label. they will begin working on a new vert shmup for 2011 instead
Re: Cave Future plans
Black Label versions are so cost effective I'd be suprised if they didn't.
Hopefully they'll be some system where you shoot enemies with your normal shot any bullets caught in the explosion turn into rings of increasing value, and with your lock shot... I'll get my coat.

Re: Cave Future plans
I don't know if it may happen, however in a recent interview to Asada he said that they were considering ports of Ibara and Ibara Kuro. Maybe they'll announce it and BL for Akai Katana is a given and it is just a matter of time it gets a port for X360 or iphone.
Re: Cave Future plans
An Ibara Kuro port would make me a very happy man indeed! Haha, everytime I saw Asada or any Cave person in events, I would always pester them to make the damn thing, and I would always get the same "we'll take it under consideration" answer.

Re: Cave Future plans
Just skimming it, I see that CAVE want to do an XBLA version of Progear, but apparently Capcom are holding out on them with some copyright issues. Also they would like to raise the prices of their XBLA games by about 25% as it seems MS is taking a significant amount of their profits. Mostly the interviewers are asking a lot of questions and Cave are being their usual coy selves with non-commital and politician style answers. They do spend an awful lot of time talking about the sound / music of Akai Katana though.newguns wrote:Does anybody have time to translate this?

Re: Cave Future plans
Damn I wish it to be true, a port of Progear. I've the feeling that Capcom is holding it up cause they'll probably have in mind to do what they've done with Commando, I mean a 3D remake done by an american company. All of us we know, 2D is deadrancor wrote:Just skimming it, I see that CAVE want to do an XBLA version of Progear, but apparently Capcom are holding out on them with some copyright issues.
