Scratching off serial numbers

Post by Dewclaw »

Why is it that people cut the serial numbers off of MVS cartridges? There's probably a really obvious answer for this but it's always mystified me.

The primary reason is to remove the serial numbers. I believe that some arcade operators don't want the carts' origin traced back since they aren't supposed to resell them.

In cases where they damaged the label too much for my taste, I'll just remove the stickers altogether and replace them with decent homemade versions.

Ah, that's what I meant, serial numbers. Wasn't thinking when I posted. It always seemed pointless that people would remove the serials, but if they're not supposed to be resold I can see why they might do that.
