Re: SoCal gaming interest check
So are we officially on for Arcade Infinity on Saturday 2/20?
Re: SoCal gaming interest check
Hey guys, just wanted to let you know about the shmupmeet at 6pm at Arcade Infinity on Saturday 2/20 as DasFool so graciously scouted for us they have Shikigami no Shiro III and Mushihimesama Futari 1.5. Let's meet by either the two machines and do some introductions, hang out, and talk about shmups. Maybe later we can move and have some dinner a drink and just chat and stuff. Maybe set up trades, etc.
**Special note, Arcade Infinity is a little hard to find for first timers, it is in the Diamond Plaza group of stores, make a turn onto Diamond Plaza St. from Fullerton Road. It is tucked away in the right hand corner of the plaza and is on the 2nd floor. What you want to do is go into the Diamond Plaza, and go to the back and look for the building with the 1380 address, and go to the second floor.

See you all there!

For sure see yah Sat!

Re: SoCal gaming interest check
that was fun we should meet up again and play some shmups!
Re: SoCal gaming interest check
this definitely was some good times.
a recap for all those who missed out. hopefully this'll be an incentive for you all to come out to the next shmupmeet. ime and my friend, got to Arcade Infinity (awesome arcade) a bit early. there was a 1/2 credit left on shikigami no shiro III, so i popped in a token and away i went. then played a run or two of mushimesama futari. gosh, i was talking all night how the buttons and stick were really well maintained. it's really lame when a controller is wonky or broken.
kinda wandered away to kill some more time, when i got back i saw Necronopticous rocking mushi. in between stages, i introduced myself really cool and friendly guy. i watched for a good while, and Necronopticous' friend came to the meetup too, talked for him with a bit. it got brought up we played board games (Dominion, Race for the Galaxy, Agricola, Puerto Rico got brought up). finally AKRATEN arrived on the scene and it was good times were made better times. really had fun talking with AKRATEN about our gaming collections/and listening to his insider stories about the gaming industry. Watched AKRATEN rock mushi. watched Necronopticous 1cc Shikigami no Shiro. then me n00bing it up. Necronopticous and his friend, and AKRATEN were really cool about the obvious chasm between mine and their shmup abilities. real gentlemen. i played some SFIV, got destroyed. played a good deal of KoF, held my own! those years playing KoF '98-2000 were not lost on me. yay.
after the shmupmeet we all went to banana bay for awesome thai food and talked about shmups/candy cabs/gaming in general. it was like non stop stand up comedy hanging out with everybody. i couldn't stop laughing. went to phoenix cafe for delicious boba drinks. rowland heights is a really cool area to hang out. we went back to AI, played a crazy japanese/wario where you manipulate frog's eyeballs as controls game called (GAHHH?) said goodbyes and left.
anyways, i hope you all come out to the next one! hopefully this'll be the first step towards a vibrant shmup community in So Cal. come out to the next one and be a part of it!

Re: SoCal gaming interest check
LOL. I just happened to take a peek here after the longest time and I see I missed a meet yesterday. To top it off, I randomly cruised out to AI last Wednesday, only to find out they don't open until early afternoon. Double Fail.
Guess I need to keep an eye on the thread.

Re: SoCal gaming interest check
I'm always down if it's a weekend.
Re: SoCal gaming interest check
I still have a fist full of AI tokens left that are burning a hole in my pocket.
whens the next meet?

whens the next meet?

Re: SoCal gaming interest check
I have been to AI a few times (have some tokens left over on my desk), though I don't usually have the weekends off. Up for a meet anytime I get fair warning to request off from work

Re: SoCal gaming interest check
How does next Saturday (3/6) sound to you guys?
Re: SoCal gaming interest check
I had a lot of fun at the last meet as well. I dunno, would having another one this Saturday night be too of short notice?
Do you guys like to drink beer and eat Kogi BBQ (http://kogibbq.com)? Off the 57 & Orangethorpe, there's a brewery called The Bruery (http://www.thebruery.com http://bruery.blogspot.com) and the Kogi BBQ truck is gonna be there this Saturday night. I'm gonna grab a beer and a short rib burrito and a blackjack quesadilla after I get off work @ 6:00, I'll be there @ 6:30 pm. We could take the 57 N to the 60 afterwards to Arcade Infinity.

I'm down for 3/6 after 6pm. Anyone else besides Necronopticous and I
Re: SoCal gaming interest check
Working 3/6, could possibly try 3/13. Since I got 2/27 off randomly (didn't even ask for it).
Re: SoCal gaming interest check
Darn, I'm hanging out with my old lady 3/6. (Don't worry she doesn't read this forum)

Re: SoCal gaming interest check
3/13 is fine, also. Is this better for you all?
Re: SoCal gaming interest check
3/6 is fine with me too
I am having a shmup meet from the 12th to the 15th so most likely we will be at AI on the 13th also.

Re: SoCal gaming interest check
3/13 would be good for me too. Here's a suggestion maybe we can try to have a small log of our scores and post them here. It would be a cool thing to see where everyone's at as well as see who the top scorer of So. Cal. I'm a n00b but it would be neat to see a friendly rivalry going on, to bring out more people.
Maybe we can ask the owner if he'll let us put in one of our own PCBs for the night for a small fee. Wouldn't it be cool to play a game of XXX or YYY on Free Play and have a score rank.
Just some thoughts to spice up the shmupmeet,

Hahaha, while that sounds interesting I'd be pretty embarrassed as I am quite noob as well.Frenetic wrote:3/13 would be good for me too. Re: SoCal gaming interest check
I'll try to make this one but I'm in the odd situation that weekend nights are a little difficult for me
.
Nice suggestion on the BYO-PCB thing, Frenetic. What options do we have here? I, unfortunately, don't have any to contribute...

Re: SoCal gaming interest check
Alright, 3/13 it is for me. I'll be arriving around 6:00 PM.
Re: SoCal gaming interest check
Yea got 3/13 off so I'll be there around the same time.
Re: SoCal gaming interest check
great see yah then!
Re: SoCal gaming interest check
See you guys there.
Re: SoCal gaming interest check
I'm getting off work @ 6:00 p.m. on Saturday 3/13 so I'll meet up with you guys a little later!
As for bringing a PCB, I unfortunately don't own one either. Hopefully the owner will be there (or I'll leave my number) and see if we can negotiate first, if we can bring a PCB, and if so if we can work it out to have it on how much it would cost in tokens, etc or if we could pay a flat fee.
Any idea on convincing the owner to let us put in a PCB? Is it hard to do? Bleah, I'm such a n00b when it comes to these things but I'll do the asking if someone can handle the technical aspect.

Re: SoCal gaming interest check
The technical aspect is the equivalent of taking a Super Nintendo cartridge out of a Super Nintendo, and replacing it with another Super Nintendo cartridge. Still, while it's a nice idea, I'd say it's not likely to happen. Not to worry--Mushihimesama Futari is one of the finest games in the genre. Once everyone hits the second extend @ 250,000,000 in Maniac we can start discussing the prospect of playing something else.Frenetic wrote:Any idea on convincing the owner to let us put in a PCB?
