Death Smiles: Countdown to North America Invasion
Re: Death Smiles coming to North America [Cave 2007]
Not sure if this is the right place to post but some folks are trying to convice Aksys to make Death Smiles region free for PAL as we fear 505 Games won't deliver
http://www.aksysgames.com/forums/topic/436
as you see it aint going that good but atleast I believe its worth a shot.

Yep, I just signed up and added a post. Anyone remotely interested in the game should do the same... It kinda worked with cave (for a while...) so you never know.

It's not that of which he was referring to, but a faceplate could be possible too.Exarion wrote:CB: We have something better but… you’ll have to wait till it comes out ;P
maybe they're talking about this?

deathsmiles stick is not coming over apparently. And searching for deathsmiles on amazon comes up with the agarest war limited edition, so apparently they have some idea about it.

The fact they specifically mention Hori in their denial is enough to raise an eyebrow. Saying more would just be uninformed speculation though...

The faceplate is where it's at. That WOULD make me get the LE edition for sure and that's coming from someone that never got a LE edition of any game in all my 33 years of existence. A Hori stick is a marketing loss situation but the faceplate would move many more LEs than any accessory I could possibly imagine Aksys packing the game with. I hope they go w/ the faceplate...fuck the hori stick, I got me cab's stick now thank u very much.

Re: Death Smiles coming to North America [Cave 2007]
I concur. If someone really wants the Arcade stick they're still available on Ebay and the least expensive is $170. While I'm sure alot of people will bitch and moan about that price and want a less expensive US version the fact of the matter is that if they really wanted one they'd have gotten it already. Plus look how many Tekken 6 Arcade Stick bundles are still sitting around in stores (I saw a pile of them a couple weeks ago in Fry's). The Faceplate would be an incredibly distinct item and might even net a few reverse import sales since it was never made available in japan. An arcade stick bundle will push the price point too high, whereas a soundtrack/artbook/sticker/poster/faceplate/etc LE version will do much better in the fickle We-claim-we-want-japanese-games-but then-moan-about-expensive-LEs US market. Because let's face it, the hardcore gamers who'd buy an arcade stick already have either the official DS or another suitable choice. Aksys needs to give us something different with the US LE. Be smart Aksys....this game has real mainstream potential for a shmup. Don't blow it on a Steel Battalion Priced bundle...supergrafx77 wrote:The faceplate is where it's at. It's because the HORI stick isn't coming, but that doesn't mean there won't be... something available.StarCreator wrote:The fact they specifically mention Hori in their denial is enough to raise an eyebrow.
As for the faceplate... just wait and see.

I'm not sure how many people here are actually interested, but NCS is taking preorders for the Best version of Deathsmiles (presumably the lower priced version that includes MBL on disc).
Re: Death Smiles coming to North America [Cave 2007]
My idea is that they're getting someone else to do something for an arcade stick, most likely Madcatz if so. Which means it will break within a week, even if you get the deluxe edition with all seimitsu parts, which isn't anything to get excited about.manaka wrote:It's because the HORI stick isn't coming, but that doesn't mean there won't be... something available.StarCreator wrote:The fact they specifically mention Hori in their denial is enough to raise an eyebrow.

Considering that DS is coming out to North America this summer, don't think many would be.StarCreator wrote:I'm not sure how many people here are actually interested, but NCS is taking preorders for the Best version of Deathsmiles (presumably the lower priced version that includes MBL on disc).
I was interesting in picking up the DLC the first couple of months when DS came out but never had the time and patience to doing so. I finally have some time now and I figured might as well save my money for the North American Release which I believe has the DLC on it.
Re: Death Smiles coming to North America [Cave 2007]
I'm thinking the same thing (plus I haven't all cleared Deathsmiles going Level 3 all the way yet anyways), but if the US release is region locked to the US then it won't do me any good on my j360.

Yeah dude all us people with original TEs that still work perfectly are clearly in the minority. I mean, why else wouldn't we be shouting from the rooftops that our controllers are still working?Exarion wrote:My idea is that they're getting someone else to do something for an arcade stick, most likely Madcatz if so. Haha, my TE is working great too. I do wish they'd use higher quality materials in the PCBs though so people don't have a basis to complain about a product they may or may not even own.Lynx Winters wrote: Yeah dude all us people with original TEs that still work perfectly are clearly in the minority. Re: Death Smiles coming to North America [Cave 2007]
I'd be mad hype if Madcatz did a DS stick; however, any speculation that they will is unwarranted and my guess is they won't.
That said, TE hater's best be silent. I have an HRAP SA for the PS2 and I think the TE feels a lot nicer. Also, my HRAP died after a year and a half and I need to replace the PCB, while my TE is shiny and beautiful and a hell of a lot easier to open up and fix.

Re: Death Smiles coming to North America [Cave 2007]
I had a TE for about an hour, and after 5 minutes two of the buttons broke, and the stick began failing intermittently. I now have the cheap HORI EX2, which like much better than the TE, even when the TE was working. Sanwa buttons are just way too sensitive for me.StarCreator wrote:Haha, my TE is working great too. That sounds like you just got a lemon to me - lemons occur in any product line, and to outright assume it is representative of the entire company because of it is just ludicrous and irresponsible. Besides, if it was really within 5 minutes, your stick would have been completely covered by MadCatz's warranty.Exarion wrote: I had a TE for about an hour, and after 5 minutes two of the buttons broke, and the stick began failing intermittently. As for the EX2, if you're really happy with that, I guess you'd be happy with anything...

Way to take his post (which he made over a month ago) out of context. He was only responding to the fact that DS was getting a Platinum Best release in Japan.roker wrote:EXCEPT IN AMERICA!MachineAres 1CC wrote:Cave, most people who want to play DeathSmiles already have it.

Besides, we already know DS is getting a US release (with the same content as the Platinum Best release), so what is there to complain about?

So, in NCS's blurb for Deathsmiles II X, there's this Q+A snippet:
I chuckled.NCS wrote:Q: How many copies will the original DeathSmiles sell in the USA?
A: About 100 copies. Maybe 200 if Walmart throws in a $10 gift card.

sad thing is, it's partly true
I bought Castle Shikigami 2 at Kohl's for like 7 bucks while standing in line to buy a pair of sneakers.

For those of you in the Boston area this coming weekend, Deathsmiles will be playable at PAX EAST. Aksys is running a score tournament.
