A J-Pac can be used with PSX/2, Dreamcast, X-Box, PC/Mac with available adapters. There are of course cheaper/more reliable options (hacking pads to JAMMA). on that note, if you don't already have a jpac with adapters, you might want to just buy some pre-hacked ps1/2 pads and get adapters to other consoles. the jpac ones are of unpredicatable quality.

Has anyone else used these with hacked pads? I just wired a couple PS1 pads to it and got some odd results. First, ONLY the 1P controls would work. Second, the 1P controls worked even without the pad wired to ground. I get the feeling these are designed to handle wiring directly from sticks/buttons moreso than wiring to pads or the like.

Rather than cloud this thread w/ pad hacking woes (as this device was not designed to handle such controls), maybe a separate padhacking thread can be started. And for a shameless plug, I am available for padhacking services

they work fine, and this device was designed for them.
all it does is provide a direct electrical connection to the joysticks and buttons, by screw terminals or the JAMMA input.

see those green terminal blocks in this picture? that's where you connect the wires you solder to a gamepad PCB:

unless you already have them soldered to a JAMMA connector (like I do), or have a J-PAC. Then you connect to the JAMMA style input (blue).

What I'm saying is viletim's board doesn't "do" anything with game controls. It's a totally passive connector regarding those signals, and therefore should be considered an AV device. He calls them "SCART to JAMMA Adapters" and last I checked, SCART doesn't have anything to do with game controls. (I'm not trying to be a turd, btw.)

Since one uses either Japanese RGB or Euro Scart input into the Scart to Jamma adapter, one would have to use a 3rd-party hack like Datel's DVD Region X to remove the dreaded "green" Macrovision anti-copying protection scheme in place when watching DVDs on the Playstation 2 console. The DVD playback looks razor sharp, vivid and flawless when viewed on a 15kHz low-res arcade monitor. Tis a shame that LCD monitors can't approach the warmth and visual clarity afforded by CRT-based arcade monitors.
The same can be said for VideoCD playback on the Dreamcast with an appropiate VideoCD adapter setup. Quite sharp and vivid indeed.

Excellent work viletim, I'm definitely considering buying one of these when I get the extra cash. I built your AC coupled amplifier a couple of years ago to hook up to the scart output of a scan converter, unfortunately I still have yet to try it out because I moved on to other projects before I could find a lm1881 or a digital clamp IC, But reading through all this is getting me interested in messing with my arcade cabinets again.
I also built your direct coupled amp with the over frequency shut off and it worked great.

the component cable will put the PAL Wii in component mode. you would need to mod the cable so pins 8 & 10 are open.

Perhaps you can try calling Nintendo Australia and asking about availability. If you have no luck there, have a look around for third party cables. Good third party cables are much easier to come by for current consoles than older ones.

Just received my scart to jamma adapter from tim, works very fine but i've a sound problem.
My ps2 is plugged via RGB scart to the adapter ( on atomiswave/egret3 CAB) and the sound connected via amplifier (using stéréo plot on the adapter).

If you have a phono to scart adapter, use your PS2 composite cable to input audio into the scart adapter and listen for buzzing. If it isn't there its your lead. If it is there, its Viletims faulty product.

ok, i ve tested with my a ps2 composite cable but there's always the buzzing sound.
Even is the ps2 is not connected to the adapter (so just plugged the adapter to jamma finger and my amplifier to the "scart to jamma" via Red and White audio cables), when i power on the cabinet, i hear the buzzing sound coming out from speaker!!!!

Is there a way to flip the monitor orientation using the adapter? I finally hacked a PS1 pad and set up viletim's adapter to use the PS2 on the Excellena. The problem is that the Excellena's monitor rotates clockwise and it looks like DDP DOJ's TATE mode is counter clockwise.
The wiring is not really set up to rotate the monitor counter clockwise, just wondering if there is an option with the adapter?

There isn't any switch on board viletim's Scart to Jamma adapter to swtich your Excellena's monitor to the correct orientation. You'd have to check on the monitor's chassis board perhaps to see if it is possible to flip monitor screen orientation to your liking. It's odd to hear that your monitor tates clockwise rather the traditional anti-clockwise of say like an Egret 29 or an Egret II's proper tate setup. Most candy cabs do tate in the proper orientation, of course, but there are a few oddball ones that don't do so.
FYI: Some console based shmup titles do have a "flip" option listed in the Options screen to flip the screen 180 degrees in the opposite direction if you do have such a monitor that tates clockwise issue. And vice versa with some arcade shmup PCBs as well with the handy "flip" screen orientation option.
