Sorcerer's Maze PSone... What game is it localized from?

Post by CecilMcW00t »

I always wanted to try this game (despite the awful cover art), but never got around to it. It was just released today for the US Playstation Network and it is a lot of fun. But I can't help but wonder what game it was based on. It is developed by Shoeisha. I can't find anything on it though. Anyone know?

I believe the original Japanese title was "Action Puzzle Prism Land". It is indeed a fun Breakout-type game - while XS cut some stuff out (as per usual) one good point about it is that the powerups, which were labeled by Japanese characters in the original, are now fitted with icons which are easier for non-Japanese readers to make sense of. Not sure how the European version turned out though...

How does "Beta Bloc" compare to this? I'm considering picking one up. From what I understand, both are fairly bare-bones.

Thanks for the info! I think I'll import this bad boy too since it seems to have memory card support which means it may possibly save high scores. The scoring in the game is fun.

Regarding Beta Bloc, you are definitely way better off with Sorcerer's Maze. I forced myself to play through the first world on Beta Bloc and it's pretty lackluster. It's not terrible, but just nothing really special, I thought the RPG elements would be cool, but they aren't executed all that well.

Sorcerer's MAze has much more creativity in the power-ups and level design. It also has some really wacky and original boss battles.
