I got Kindom Grandprix in the post today!

Post by Danny »

I got Kindom Grandprix in the post today... and it friggin' rules!

I brought the game really because I liked the sound of the concept of racing/shmup hybrid, i've never played the game before today and I have to say this game's hybrid formula works really, really well and I'm enjoying the game very much, so much I really don't want to go to work now! :) .

I've also just found out that this game is in fact on MAME and that there is an english patch for it to but I like owning games that I enjoy.

Although please pardon my stupidity if you guys already knew about that hack or if you don not need it. :D

Anyway I'll do a review of it at some point in the future once I get the chance to play it for a few hours striaght.

i'm glad that you're enjoying it. The racing element is fun and I have a lot of time for this game. Which version did you get? The pcb or the Saturn?

Great game, if a bit on the easy side. Go for 1st place and get some second loop goodness.

Oh yeah sorry forgot to mention, I got it for the Sega Saturn because I've still not gotten around to purchasing a supergun yet.

I love Shippu Mahou Daisakusen, it's really the only Raizing game I've ever gotten completely behind, although I've only put much time into the three on the Saturn. It seems like it's more about straight-up twitch action instead of the asinine ranks of Raizing's other stuff. I'm especially fond of the vampire level, I always pretend I'm fighting Count Chocula.

In case you don't know about it, there's also a simple code you can enter to enable "shooting mode," where the game plays more like a "regular" shmup, without the racing, if you're in the mood for that...I wrote it down someplace, if I find it I'll post it here (if someone else doesn't do so first).

From Gamefaqs -

On the options screen, scroll down to Sound Options. Press Left, Right, Left, Right, Up, Up, Down, Down on the D-Pad, and then press Start. At the bottom of the Options should now be Game Mode. The default is Racing; Shooting mode completely eliminates the Racing elements found in the game.

I really should play this more, it really is a fantastic shooter (and the only Raizing game I own)

Heh, well, if you're talking shmup home ports, there's not much more to be had, really...Souky and Garegga (IIRC) are the only other ones I know of offhand which you can play outside MAME or an arcade cab (though I recall someone some time ago saying that Mahou Daisakusen was ported to some obscure computer system...not sure if it's true).
