I always get stuck with these stupid charges whenever something is shipped to me from outside of Canada. The worst is when you order weapons, such as throwing knives or swords, they tend to charge you nearly as much in extra charges as the stuff is worth! My throwing knives had a charge of ~ $100, and they were only worth about $120. That hurt.

On a side note, anyone from Canada have any experience ordering from Play-Asia? I want to pre-order Mushihime, but am scared of insane border/duty charges...Or is there somewhere else that is import-friendly for us friendly Canadians?

Yeah It is not good

Well I haven't been charged any additional fee's with software to the UK myself, I wouldn't know about Canada etc though.

£41!? Thats pretty lame. I'm still desperatly in need of a Japanese PS2 for when Mushihimesama arrives. I was gonna get one from play-asia but now I'm not so sure.

Are there any UK based sites which have reasonable import PS2s?

UPS is the worst for import charges! Avoid them at all cost!

They almost always add a ridiculous 'brokerage fee' that can add up to 50% of what you paid for the item.

I'd rather they actually stated It'll cost me that much! I myself would've thought twice about my purchase If I knew about the cost :(

Bishamon- Is EMS any better (not sure If thats the other option)

We Should have a thread with some handy information on importing, shipping options and any additional fees that might be included.

yes or even better.
There should be a site that covers these issues. or a page on someones site about this. Anyone?

I'm allways begging for new sites with unique unseen content.
This is actually what drove me to make my fucking old site. I still have drive for unique interesting content, but too lazy so now I order people to do it. Offcourse nobody cares/listens....

Customs charge would be about £30. So the rest is UPS charge.

I've ordered from them a couple times using UPS. You'll have to pay GST/PST when you pick up the package, which is likely the same for standard shipping. I didn't have any other import or processing fees.

If you're still in Brandon, Purolator handles EMS and Wray's handles UPS. I hate Wray's, but chose UPS becuase it was listed at 2-4 rather than 3-5 days and has decent package tracking. Last time I got a package from Wray's I had to call them and tell them my package was in, and they didn't believe me until they went in back and searched for it. Purolator has always been a lot quicker and easier for me. Shipping time was 3 days, I think, accounting for the time differences delaying processing in HK.

Yep, I'm still in Brandon. Thanks for all the info, I can now pre-order without hesitation!

And I too hate Wray's Delivery, they always mess up my packages. Or they come to the house, no one is home, and they fail to leave a notice that they were there. And then I call them, and they say they have nothing for me. And then they call me back the next day, and say there's a package for me :x

In any case, several JP shmups are now pre-ordered :D

Yes. I've never had any similar problems with EMS. Just about anything is better than UPS.

I recently had a small $35.00 order through them, and it arrived quickly and without any additional charges.

Today I ordered another $200+ worth in games; This will be the 'real' test. :)

EMS is the best international mail service out there IMO.

I don't know what the actual number is, but packages declared at less than some amount (I've heard ~$30) usually get through without any charges. Not sure how honest Play-Asia is, but you could always ask if they would just list the contents as "video games" and declare it for $30. My last two orders were in the $100-150 range, so I was charged sales tax. If you want insurance, you're kind of stuck declaring the actual value.

I was rather amused when my modded ps2 showed up as "broken game console - $0". No taxes on that one, but had it been broken I couldn't have made an insurance claim.

I think that you only get taxed if the price of the package is over either £50 or $50(i can't remember which). I recently brought about £130's worth of games from Play Asia and got taxed an extortionate amount after delivery from UPS. Every E.M.S. shipment that i've had delivered has escaped tax. I'm not sure of the 'ins and outs' of it but i know that i'm never using UPS again!

I worry about that very thing (damage during shipping), and so won't suggest to sellers or resellers that they declare really low values on my orders. On the other hand, when they choose to do this on their own, it can be a pleasant suprise! :)

Back in the Saturn and early DC days, I used to deal a LOT with a reseller in New York for almost all of my import needs. He would always put the declared value at $10 in order to avoid additional charges, and the one time I had a damaged shipment, he just sent me a replacement, free of charge, and told me to just keep the damaged product. Oddly enough, the damaged game was a domestic copy of 'Panzer Dragoon Saga'. Only one of the discs was damaged (quite severely scratched), so I gave it to a friend of mine for free. Years later, after the value skyrocketed, and he had repaired the damaged disc somewhat, this same friend sold the copy I had given him for free and got $175 U.S. for it on eBay! He even advertised that the last disc was damaged, and showed pics, and still made a killing! I think he owes me some money. ;)

I imported a white PStwo effort from play asia and UPS'ed it, and got charged nothing

Having said that, the wee fuckers charged me 20 quid on 2 sodding games after that so it's a total gamble.

I'm sure the max before customs was $20 CAD, and in Ontario they will charge you if it is even a penny over that (I've had stuff convert to 20.XX and it was stopped). There is usually a $5 charge for handling then applicable GST and PST. I've found that in BC almost everything gets through without any delays.
Fascination...

YesAsia is a good site to buy from. The prices are slightly higher than Play-Asia, but there's no shipping charge and they guarantee you won't get stung by customs if you're in Europe (not sure about the rest of the world).

It's a Matsui, It must be about 7+ years old now

The 46 inch Toshiba downstairs (1-2 years old) runs everything fine

theevilfunkster- Are you still thinking of purchasing a PSTwo from Yes-asia?
