devil may cry 3:
i was a bit anxious about playing this, lets say that the young dante isnt what i would consider "cool", in fact, the intro scene with the pizza, when i saw it at a friend's house, made me laugh, and not in the good way.
but, i really wanted to play this type of game so i tried it, after all, it should at least be decent. first off, all the "lets rock baby come on wohoo" is bearable if you take it with a grain of salt, sure its ridiculous but eh, its funny, especially the succubus part, when you defeat her, i couldnt believe it....
so how's the game? fine, shooting is a blast, slicing is delicious and all is there to make a perfectly fine game.
graphics are pleasant and fluid, minus the occasional slowdown which adds a little dramatic side even :p
yeah, you hear everywhere how hard the game is, i was curious to see if it was true.
well, it is, at least the beggining, i can safely say that my hardest moments were the first few bosses, very hard, until i got acccustomed to the controls, then, it becomes a normal difficulty (mind you, this is the first DMC i play) if not pretty easy during stages, with some kinda tough bosses.
controls are fine and dandy, but not really.
one thing i really hated was the command to dodge, what the hell were they thinking? you need to imput left or right to the direction you're facing while holding R1, this sounds fine, but its not, you often jump back or towards because its hard to adjust and see where you are facing, not to mention diagonnals. that and with the shitty...i mean 3D camera, its just impossible to reely on it at times.
so meh, given a proper dodge button, the game would be easier and more playable.
then comes the abbilities of dante, dante, from the beggining, is a very versatile guy, using multiple weapons such as shotguns, blades, guitars (wtf) purple lazers of doom el all.
the thing is, there is one tactic that greatly outshines them ALL, it is the good old 3 hit slash sword combo you have from the start. what, again, were they thinking? they add a "style" bar and make a big fuss out of it, but what's the point? you have to use useless crap to build the damned bar, and its not really useful besides for ratings, like i care, i like to find effective and quick ways to beat devils, effective, quick AND stylish methods take the cake, but they should been a result, not me trying desperately to fill some useless bar.
more bitching, equipment and style system, you cant change your equipment mid stage, so once you picked something, you need to stick with it, thats kinda dumb since it just becomes trial and error to find the right combination for some troublesome section, not to mention some styles are so damned lame, i only used the "swordguard" once because there was one attack that i couldnt figre how to dodge, yes, picking this style is the only way to block, and if you do, you dont get all the cool (but for the mst part useless) other powers.
alother thing that bothered me a bit, with the standart set today, the game really offers little variety, its just slash, move to the next room, slash, defeat the boss, etc. i make it sound worse than it is, but seriously, some different situations would be very welcome once in a while (like how they did resident evil 4, now thats variety)
the music is fine, cept the battle theme, yes i know there's two or more, but they're the same, hearing a dumbass scream "soul shot fight man power bleed to the eyes" and "now you really cross the line smack thing what my love is suffer" over and over and over again, with nearly the same melody, is cool the first 10 times, then it gets repetitive, 100 times later it gets annoying, 200 times and it gets unbearable, you just want to kill every enemy to make it stop (yes it goes only wheen there's active ennemies in the area you're in)
i had quite some fun with it tho, the design is nice, its fun slashing and blasting demons, and you can make some neat combos, even if they have little actual use.
if i would have to rate it, id rate it 7/10, its like those fighting game that feels and look good, but when you actually play them, you realise how broken and shallow they are.
id still recommend it to anyone tho, im sure there's people who will enjoy it more than i do.
actually, im too lazy to write the second one right now, ill edit the topic later, it involves replaying suikoden 2 after a long while and being happy.
2 mini reviews, cause i feel like it. (more like one)

Personally, I believe playing games which end with "2" or "3" in their name, before you've played the original, is a really neat idea. Not only does it make you a clueless fuck, but you then continue to attempt to understand the story.
I haven't played the third installment of this game, and mainly because I haven't played the second. I don't think I want to do this, considering almost everybody agrees that the game is trash.

no shit, i tought games were about playing, not trying to understand subpar half assed "plots"
you're a funny guy judging from your latest posts, i like that.
i mean, you wont play DDP because you will not understand the story and be a clueless fuck since you havent played DP?
aaah
