Fantasy Fighter Selection

Post by esreveR »

This is kind of hard to explain. The name's a play on fantasy football, because it kind of works the same way: Taking the elements of specific shmup fighters (Or coming up with your own) and combining them into a sort of 'dream fighter'. A sort of custom ship thread. I'll show some (More like a lot of) examples of what I'd want.

Dimahoo:
Karte (Alternate): Miyamoto's shot, burst, and speed, Solo-Bang's laser magic, Karte's laser bomb. Starting color is blue.
Grimlen (Alternate): Miyamoto's shot, burst, and speed, Karte's homing magic, Grimlen's bomb. Starting color is blue.
Honest John: Grimlen's shot, burst, and speed, Miyamoto's magic, Solo-Bang's bomb. Starting color is red.
Nirvana: Karte's shot, burst, and speed, Grimlen's magic, Miyamoto's bomb. Starting color is red.

Raiden Fighters:
Fireblade: Based on a custom aircraft someone made in X-Plane. Think of an Me 262 except with dual push-pull engines each with two contraprops in the nacelles. That's like a small fighter with four engines and eight props going at once, so naturally this thing is fast. Shot is fairly simple, there's four machine-guns and one cannon between the engines, so they'd fire their shots with no defensive spread. Missile armament involves rockets that deploy, pause for a moment, and then fire up full-blast and zoom forward on a semi-homing vector, much like Metal Slug's Rocket Launcher except faster. Laser armament involves two points firing laser blasts forward one-by-one, similar to one of DoDonPachi's bosses except with unlimited range (Or at least range longer than the screen). Uses the typical Sunburst bomb.
Locust: A pusher dual-tail flying wing with twin vulcans at the front. Rate of fire would be insane, defensive spread is medium. Medium speed as well. Laser weaponry consists of small fireballs shot forward that leave behind varied trails of explosions. The fireballs go through things, and although they alone don't do much damage, the explosions that emanate from them and linger for a bit do. The missiles it fires go forward at medium speed to a specific distance, then detonate similarly to Eraser's missiles. The splash damage can hurt enemies that are caught in the blast. Again, this uses Sunburst bombs.

Blazing Star:
?????: JB's ship (Can't spell it to save my life) with Leefa's Wave and Tidal Wave shots. A fairly simple change, but it would be nice.

Giga Wing:
Unknown (Alternate): Although Unknown in the original Giga Wing sucked, having his laser options actually follow the ship and giving him a giant laser as a bomb (Similar to Carmine's minus the flame thingies on the sides) at the cost of having less of the laser balls at once would be cool. Carmine's pretty much exactly the same though, so I wouldn't complain with having that.

Dragon Blaze:
Ayin: Pretty much have him ride the Shinden as a "dragon" (With attacks like the Phantom in S1999) and fly around like in Gunbird 2 without it. A secret character.

Battle Bakraid:
Metal Crow: This fires little bomb-like projectiles that pass through targets and burst at a specific (Maybe random) point, like those medium fighters on the Cloud stage fire. If you let it charge for a bit, four large options will pop out and fire many of these little bomb-bursts at various distances. I think it should look similar to Steel Bat, except with two engines instead of one.

Battle Garegga
?????: This is kind of founded on a joke a friend of mine made. I asked him if Vulcans or Napalm were better, and he replied, "Napalm vulcans". So thus we have a Grass Hopper mod that has a special weapon titled, "Cannon", because it fires the vulcan shells at far lower speeds, except they create explosions when they hit stuff, making splash damage. However, because of the lower firing rate, the number of spent cases that come out is lower, meaning less damage to behind.
?????: Continuing the idea of "Combining things together is better" (Note: This doesn't always work. Chocolate salads were never good), I came up with a mix between Napalm and Missiles. This machine, a variation on Wild Snail, fires a few rockets rather than releasing two options. However, these rockets go forward and explode in massive napalm-like chains of blasts after a set time or when they hit something. I was thinking of calling the weapons plain and simple "Bombs" but that doesn't have the same kind of ring to it.

Strikers 1945 II:
(I imagine that Player 1 and Player 2 would have different planes to select from, but they would be mostly alternate versions of other planes. There are some differences though...)
Fiat G-56: The sucky fighter in Plus should at least get some redemption. Keep everything pretty much the same, except that the supershot gets thicker and more powerful (Almost to the point of being the thickness of the plane) on higher levels. Also blocks bullets. Bomber escorts are also separately animated to make more complex movement. This wouldn't replace anything.
Spitfire: Alternate version of Mosquito. Pretty much the same except with Mosquito-style animation on whatever is the same and the supershot has one bomb that makes two sets of explosions, one after the other.
Zero Fighter: Alternate version of Hayate. Uses the same side-shot, but has a P-38 nuke instead and has the Hayate bomber support.
Alternate P-38: Pretty much the same except with the Plus supershot, which gets longer, zaps over a larger radius, and stops bullets on higher levels.
Ascender: Alternate version of Shinden. Pretty much the same as Plus except with the kind of animation you see in II and different levels of the boomerang supershot, the higher ones destroying enemy bullets.
Bf-109: Alternate version of Flying Pancake. Same side-shot as the original S1945, except more powerful and coming straight from the plane. Supershot involves firing a really powerful spread of bullets, like a souped-up normal shot that can destroy enemy bullets too. Bomb is the same.
P-51: Alternate version of Ta152. Fires lots of somewhat small missiles out of four points, and uses the same plasma mine thing. Bomb is the same as S1945 original, but with the newer B-29 graphics.

Strikers 1999:
YF-23: Fires similar side-shots as Shinden does, supershot makes the side-planes (There's four of them) fire streams of large shots that go through enemies, and bomb summons two B-2s that attack similarly to Flying Pancake's bomb.

Metal Slug:
Whip: Longer-range melee attack (With a whip of course...what do you expect?) and the super melee attack consists of firing a Desert Eagle with a large muzzle flash and no projectile (Which can damage enemies AND vehicles, mind you). Also, killing an enemy with the Desert Eagle can cause Rocket Launcher-style explosions (Like Ralf's vulcan punch does), which can damage enemies too.

It's kind of hard to tell through all that, but I like fast ships with little to no spread (And if it involves side-shot, I prefer plain straight-up lasers). It's very precision-oriented but still allows you to mow down everything and grab all the medals.

Anyway, feel free to post your sort of 'dream machines' for a shmup.
