I love Mars Matrix and I hate myself because I can't score in this game.

Tailgun and spread bombs makes the stage a lot easier. For the boss, Aquas wrote a guide on how to dodge his attacks and let him time out.Dragoforce wrote:Please teach me how to get past stage 3?

The 100% requirement hurt my enjoyment of Viper Phase 1 as well.Ruldra wrote:

I loved LIFE until I started playing it for score
Hmm, I liked Garegga more once I got used to playing for score, but Bakraid's scoring still bugs me.

I found Giga Wing 2 rather mediocre until I tried playing it for score. Then I loved it.
And a bit off topic:
I loved Hellfire until I noticed how awfully unbalanced it is.

Hated Mushi Futari until I tried playing for score on Maniac.
Raiden Fighters Jet was kinda boring until I started playing for score. Unlike some of you, I really like the insane, nonsensical, obscure "stuntman" antics you've got to pull on a constant basis, requiring that you memorize the stages as well as twitch-react to the bullets. It's one of the most variety-packed shmups there is. Most of the Raizing games share this characteristic (although I suck at them, unlike RFJ where I can consistently activate X-medals).

I generally didn't enjoy the genre until I tried playing for score. Now I can have fun with it, without obsessing over score (I don't lay on the complex scoring games too thick).
I never really tried playing the Treasure games or much Cave so I don't dislike them from scoring. However I do like Esp.Ra.De for some reason (despite having one of my least favorite plot setups ever - angry children massacre adults, which is like the pimply version of something Freddy would play, Esp.Ra.De generally has nice visuals), though the times I've played it I haven't gotten chains that big. I should add Fever SOS as well - it even has a caravan mode, yay!

I loved Ikaruga until I tried playing for chain.

Been playing shiki2 for score lately. All of a sudden I just can't get that 1CC. It's that high risk vs reward. It's really pissing me off. I should just put it aside for awhile, I've played too much.

I loved everything until I tried playing for score.
I think I should just stick to trying for a 1cc in my games. I'm not good enough to play for score... maybe in a few years!

I like the Progear theme here, nearly everyone realises they love it when they start playing for score - shows how amazing a system it really is.

Mildly off-topic, but I loved Time Crisis 3 and 4 until I tried playing for score.
Then again, fuck TC games that reward you more for comboing and accuracy than speed. TC1 all the way!

I *always* have more fun playing for score. Otherwise I would tire of a game way too quickly.

Same goes for Pulstar.
Anyway, I loved Blazing Star until I realized how goddamn complicated the thing is.
I loved Progear until I realized I couldn't understand how to score for shit.
Same for ESP.Ra.De.
That's all I can think of for now.

Re: I loved/hated ______ until I tried playing for score.
I liked a lot of CAVE games until I started playing them for score.
They sure have some awful scoring systems in many of their games.
Also I really liked Battle Bakraid until I learned about its real scoring system. Then I felt like cutting myself. What a waste.
Can't really think of any games where scoring made me like them, since I'm almost always playing for score from the start anyway.

I think this is almost always the case for me. I just can't ever make myself not play for score. I do wish I could tackle DDP without playing for score though, as I'm useless at it when I do try and up that digit count!
