Bulding a cabinet - Tate controllers?

Post by asr10user »

I was watching some Youtube videos of a guy who has DDP DOU tated on his PS3, but then he says his control gets rotated. Is this a common issue when tating? I plan on building a cabinet and this might be a huge problem for a joystick that cant be moved.

Here is the YT video:

No, he has obviously just set the graphics to tate leaving the controls (monitor orientation) in Yoko. Once he sets both to Tate he can use his standard stick (in normal orientation) on his tated screen.

when you tate a screen, controls are same ie up on the stick is up etc so no need to alter the controls when tating. when trying to play a rotated game with the screen in the horiz position, the controls would be wrong however ie pressing left on the stick would actually move your ship/whatever up or down on the screen, depending which way you rotate the screen. try it in MAME, all will become clear!

edit : or you could always play the game lying down on your side to play a rotated game on a horiz-orientated screen!

That guy in the video has no idea whatsoever.

If you're running the game in TATE mode your monitor needs to be on the side!!!!! The controls are not reversed just the screen is the wrong way and he's looking at the screen sideways.

In your cab, you will need to mount your monitor vertically (north-south) in order to play games in TATE mode (Yes, that means you can't play horizontol games properly) - nothing to do with your joysticks.

the shown game (DDP DOJ PS2) does allow both. You can set both, the screen orientation and the control rotation and he's obviously mixed it up...
