Yes, yes, I know. I don't need anybody to say it, so put the axes down already.

I'm interested in finding out what the best titles are. Mainly I'm focusing on getting myself Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, and a Freeloader so I can play NTSC-US/NTSC-J/Other formats.

Aside from the rather obvious NTSC-US and PAL versions of Ikaruga, which are most definitely going to be thrown in my face if people don't read this thread properly, what other titles are available for this worth looking into? I'm not interested in getting 10 games which'll keep me occupied for an estimated 1 hour per game. I know how many Nintendo fangirls are out there, and I know how people prefer quality over quantity.

So what's some "quality" for the gamecube? And please, nobody say "XIII" because that game is laughable.

Mr. Driller : Drill Land - but you can't save with freeloader so you are fucked again.

Oh, I didn't know memory cards had region protection on them. Yes, that makes perfect sense.

It's Mr. Driller. I'm pretty sure I could compromise and write the scores down manually if it came to such measures. Next.

No, you unlock levels and if you don't save you have to start all over. Memory Cards arn't region protected, but your system will format them to whatever region it is. The freeloader just can't save on Mr.Driller for some reason.

Viewtiful Joe
Killer 7
Super smash melee
Pikmin 1 & 2

Well that's good news. I was beginning to question exactly how the fuck I'm going to play imported games then.

I've heard alot about Resident Evil 4, and leading sites have been going oon and on forever about how "you should buy a gamecube for this game alone." which becomes annoying after you've heard it for the 200th time.

I'm not sure if I'd be interested in Pikmin, but I know what the element of the game is. I can't tolerate things that are ridiculously cute, but then why did I buy a gamecube.

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is what you're referring to, in reference to Paper Mario 2, correct? I've been interested in that. That's probably one of my top 3. The others being Ikaruga and Crystal Chronicles.

Correct. It was one of the best games ever released last year. IMO of course.

There's a Megaman X Collection that's heading for the Gamecube soon, so keep a heads up for that as well.

I've been highly considering Animal Crossing. My importer is trying to deal with a person who has Shikigami no Shiro II, with the cat figurine. I'm still hoping to get this.

I've heard some really interesting stuff about Animal Crossing. It's apparently supposed to be better than Harvest Moon's trail of games which I never bothered with.

Smash Bros., hands down. This is the only reason I do not sell my Gamecube. Of course, the only games I have for it are this and Ikaruga, but it's more than worth it.

Animal Crossing is fun, but just remember it's not a proper game.

Super Monkey Ball 2 is probably my favorite for the GC.

The Zelda Collection is a nice set of games if you don't have them
on other systems (N64, NES).

There are lots of good games, but many of them are available on
other systems. GC exclusives tend to be Nintendo franchise titles,
and most of them have been mentioned above...

Also get REmake (or that and Zero if there's a Gamestop nearby since they sell them in a two-pack) if you're a fan of the old RE games, as it's the best playing in that series (forgetting that 4 exists).

I'm curious as to what Game Cube owners on this site use to play shmups, like Ikaruga, on their Cubes-especially considering that the D-Pad on the Cube's controller is TINY.

I did find this controller on Play-Asia:

http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-23-70-21i.html#

I have no idea if US stores sell this, though.

From what I heard it's a really good controller. I heard that it works great with shmups.

Edit: Misread previous post

The Hori arcade joystick is what I use for Gamecube shmupping. Not many titles left to mention except for the Naruto games, but only if you're into anime themed games.

I heard some good things about Kururin Sqaush (import). If it's anywhere near as good as the GBA Kururin games, it should definatly be worth getting. It's inexpensive too. Oh yeah, it seems like multigame collections in general turn out better on GameCube than PS2. IMO, both Midway Arcade Treasures for GCN are great.

Other systems. But seriously, analog stick for all 2D games. Works surprisingly well.

From what I've been told, everybody who plays Ikaruga either uses the original controller, alternating between the analog and dpad, or an arcade stick. When I say 'people who play Ikaruga' I'm referring to people who have proved that they don't fail at video games.

You must not be native - you're supposed to say, "It lays eggs".

Two games I own that I definitely should spend more time on. Started playing P.N. 03 again to get the Papillion Suit, but all the trial missions and the backtracking through empty rooms is extremely boring.

There's very little backtracking. You're doing something wrong. Play the real game. If you're any good you'll get all the suits playing through the game.
