Anyone still make CRT?
I was looking around, and all I can find are Haier TVs, which have mixed reviews.
Anyone know of anyone else who makes any around the 20 inch mark?

Re: Anyone still make CRT?
I think RCA still does. I recall seeing them at Walmart (20 inchers) recently.

People don't make CRTs anymore
? Excuse my surprise but I love my 27 incher Panasonic and games for my old consoles just look better through a CRT. Might be time to hunt down a quality 20 incher before they disappear altogether.

Actually, RCA makes nothing, because they have closed their doors in 1986; it now exists only as a trademark owned by French conglomerate Thomson SA, and licensed to other companies. In this case, TVs branded RCA are made by Chinese manufacturer TCL.junkeR wrote:I think RCA still does. I recall seeing them at Walmart (20 inchers) recently.

Re: Anyone still make CRT?
Last year I had to hunt around town for a couple hours before I found a single standard-definition CRT, at a Sears oddly enough. I didn't really need one, but I wanted a backup TV in new condition just in case.
Unfortunately after trying it out for a bit, it's nowhere near as nice as my 13-year old 36" CRT which is still alive and kicking well, despite tateing and untateing the heavy thing hundreds of times. When that TV eventually goes I'll be very sad.

Re: Anyone still make CRT?
I went CRT hunting a couple of months back. I imagine you will have a hard time if you are looking for new. I'd recommend trying in this order:
Goodwill/Thrift Stores
Craigslist
Pawn Shops
I scored a very nice 27'' flat screen CRT for $50 at Goodwill. Since the TVs are stashed away in the back I was able to tate it without being noticed.
I see a lot of CRT sell on Craiglist. People want them gone once they "upgrade" to HD. The price will depend on how motivated the seller is.
My Pawn Shops have a ton of CRTs. I'd go there as a last resort because they're overpriced compared to the first two options.

Re: Anyone still make CRT?
Craigslist is a gold mine for people selling off good CRTs for dirt cheap.
Re: Anyone still make CRT?
The local Goodwill only seems to have TVs with RF and maybe RCA jacks if you're lucky. The occasional set with S-Video goes quickly (usually before I see it), as do all big sets.
Re: Anyone still make CRT?
Maybe I lucked out then. Mine has 1 component, 2 composite and an s-video. I'd never had a CRT with component before. I hooked up the 360 to it since everything else I own is composite.Ed Oscuro wrote:The local Goodwill only seems to have TVs with RF and maybe RCA jacks if you're lucky. Re: Anyone still make CRT?
I have an older 32 inch Sharp TV that I sometimes still use with similar inputs, 1x component, 2 x composite a/v. Got it via craigslist. Works like a champ for RGB-component encoders for old systems as its the msot basic version of component, minimal scaling.
OP's best bet is to hit up craigslist and find one in good working order, or hit up goodwill. The one here locally has about 15 old CRT sets for 10 to 15 bucks a piece.

The stores do get these sets, but they go very quickly. Oftentimes, whenever I see a nicely-sized (i.e. above 21") set with the better connectors, it's got a "sold' sticker on it. The early bird gets the worm. Enjoy your set!Kyle wrote:Maybe I lucked out then. Mine has 1 component, 2 composite and an s-video. I'd never had a CRT with component before. Whatevering Craigslist. There are loads of great TVs being sold for dirt cheap on there.
