Sonic the Hedgehog 4

Post by szycag »

http://kotaku.com/5463913/project-needl ... -episode-i

So, "Project Needlemouse" is going to pick up where the Genesis games left off. Yet there's still a lot to groan about... foremost, that they're going to split the game into episodes. People were probably expecting polygons over HD sprites, doesn't bother me so much. I'm not a big fan of the homing attack though, which is apparently back. If the level design is decent then maybe it will feel ok, but I hate how the Sonic games of the last few years set up boring streams of homing targets.

This will probably fail, even if Sega does just exactly what the fans want. They don't get the magic and atmosphere that Yuji Naka brought to the character and game design. It's tough to say if they'll know when enough is enough with the cheesy voice acting and j-pop soundtrack either.

How many shitty games took Sega to realize that the best Sonic games are the ones that have NO psychological nya-kawaii-characters, NO complex storylines and NO threedee gameplay!
In an alternate universal, Soldier Blade II has already been crafted by Hudson Soft and Compile with proper tate this time around (c) PC Engine Fan X!

They should just make a new Marine Fishing type game starring him. It'd be the shit.

But hey guys, it's 2D! With the same on-rails series of tubes psuedo-cutscene levels, I bet.

Was never a fan of Sonic and it being downloadable and episodic just killed any possible interest I could have had for it. Are platformers not worthy of proper treatment and release now?

That seems to be what the general gaming public thinks. Can't tell you how many people online, including many high-profile sites, were bitching about NSMBWii not being a WiiWare game.

I was surprised my some of the responses to NSMBWii considering it's actually one of the harder SMB games and that most Mario games aren't hard (and even SMB3 is generous with extra lives). I feel it's nice that it sold quite a bit, since full priced 2D style games get a bum rap, though part of the sales may have been for the wrong reasons.

I find it sad in general that older games don't get the same porting treatment that they used to get and either need to be in a collection with a ton of games or dirt cheap to be considered worth it (not to mention that the collections with a ton of games use emulation rather than porting, and the emulation is not always up to snuff). I also find it sad that modern 2D style games that are as good or better than many full priced games get the budget price treatment in the west.

you are trying really hard with that comparison..... none of that looks like grass.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

I found the sonic advance games(weird no-one mentioned these yet) to be done pretty well, so I'll probably enjoy this somewhat. Bleh at episodes though.

are you sure as to exactly how this is going to work? sounds more like multiple full games, maybe you can play as Tails in Episode 2 or something

I liked Sonic Rush, mostly because Hideki Naganuma did the music and his stuff is really good.

The new Sonic (character) looks terrible though. Why don't they just use the older versions? He looked much better before they tried to make him look "cool".

Y'all are too hard on Sonic 4. To me, it looks great and I'm very hyped up for it. I actually loved the Day levels of Sonic Unleashed and as long as this lives up to those levels, I'll be happy. Also, this better be a full game not some 5 level demo.

Whoever made the teaser should be shot for making it look like they spent 20 minutes on it.

But I'm hopeful. Sega's recent 2D Sonics haven't sucked [Advance series, possibly excluding Adv2, and the Rush series].
The 3 seconds of actual game footage looked like it'd be decent [although, that grass did look like plastic, like stated above...].

Granted, being a downloadable, I probably won't get it.

Oh, and I hope they fixed the 2d homing attack problem they had in Rush. Seriously, why am I going backwards when I'm WAY away from that badnik and not even facing towards it?

I wait since 1994 for this game and.....it's XBLA dlc??? I'm sure most of us like me have had their inner child stuck in a coma-like state after the long period since sonic 3...waiting for the day to come so that sonic 4 might be released. Surely Sega was aware of this, and yet they treat the release like this? I for one and forwarding Sega the bills for my therapy sessions and I suggest everyone else do the same.

I think I'm one of like 5 people in the world that actually enjoyed a bunch of the 3D Sonic games, but obviously a new all 2D all Sonic one interests me way more. If Sega really does come through with this it should make a lot of people happy.

Will I be cool if I hate on this to? Honestly... you people won't be happy unless it sucks. If it were actually good you'd look like the frosting had been licked of your cake.

I don't think Sega are capable of licking the frosting off my cake, Nintendo have had them occupied with that for years now.

you might say Advance 2 sucks but it probably has the best music of the trilogy

5 levels is pretty much a "full game" right there, look at Batrider

Yeah, it's funny that the interview guy used Sonic 3 & Knuckles to justify this, considering that was intended to be a single game.

Sonic Advance 2 does suck, and it does have some great music.

I like the 3D games too. They did experience a bit of a downward slide, considering Sonic Adventure is still the best of them, but reviewers tend to fill their word count with LOL SONIC instead of criticizing them in any meaningful way. The "Sonic cycle" image macro complains about multiple characters, but does anyone seriously think Tails & Knuckles hurt S3&K? It's disappointing that Sega seems to be pandering to that attitude by making only Sonic playable in this game; I liked having different routes and strategies available to different characters.

Anyway, a couple posters mentioned the handheld platformers, but remember that they've been developed by Dimps since Sonic Pocket Adventure. I haven't heard of Dimps being involved with this game, so I don't think you can look to the Advances and Rushes to get an idea of how Sonic 4 will turn out.

Did you just diss an action game for having a story, or has the EinhanderZwei we know been replaced by some kind of alien? If you start posting high scores I'm getting the fire.

Actually, I like Adv3's tracks more. Especially because of the sweet chip bass.
Only Adv2 song that really seems better than anything in Adv3 is Music Plant Act 1.

Also, most people [that I know/have heard say stuff on the internets] enjoyed the 3d Sonics [sans Sonic `06], it's just compared to something like Sonic 3, it doesn't compare for them.

Also, in relation to the multiple characters part of the Sonic cycle:
All people want is 12 action stages in a row, with nothing but Sonic. You can have other characters, but don't break up Sonic's story with them like in Adventure 2.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4

I saw a few trailers of this offline and online, and I'm hyped for it. I haven't played classic 2D spindashing in years. I was aces in Sonic 3+Knuckles and could go through most stages without taking a single hit (prior to turning Super Sonic/Hyper Sonic anyway).

I think it's coming to PSN October 7th or something...

To be honest I never got "into" the later 3D Sonic games...never tested my reflexes as much, camera was always dodgey at best too...I've played the GBA Sonic games and they were okay I guess, but a lot harder to play than I'm used to.

I hope he has some nice powerups and moves to work with...I've wanted to do that one move he had in Sonic CD Up+Any Button I guess it was...not sure if they'll have that though. And I hope this has bonus stages too. Loved those.

Edit: My bad, didn't find one.
