Slap Fight PCB Questions

Hey guys,

Got a good deal on a box of untested PCBs on eBay this week, and amongst other things (including an original working Flying Shark ) is a Slapfight PCB.

Now this is not a Jamma pinout so I haven't tested it yet - will build a harness soon; but what I want to know is if it's a bootleg or not.

Reason I ask is because it doesn't have any Taito markings on it, but then, over on System 16 the pics for this PCB don't show any Taito markings either...

It's filthy, but it does say "made in japan" on it...

I used to have one that looked different and had a Jamma pinout:



Apparently there's differet versions of this. I'm guessing yours is original though, since apart from the missing Taito label it looks like the one on System16.

What are your recommended cleaning methods?

I have the same pcb like the one from CIT. Only the us version- alcon.
Also slap fight as a bootleg. It looks nearly the same like the one you have posted.
- Only some transistors are different.

Looks legit to me.

Still as the factory inspection pass labels by the edge connector.

If there are eproms on the lower board are they marked A77.

Magic Knight reckons that it may be a boot; he says:

"On mine there's a code number near the "Made in Japan". There are stickers on all ROMs, a big Taito sticker on the ROMs, a sticker in the corner with a serial number or board number, the PROMs are socketed, and other things. You'll know as soon as you build an adaptor for it though, from the copyright screen."

Thoughts? Just waiting on the correct edge connector to come in from Swallow so I can make an adapter.

Tom - I'll clean it with compressed air followed by pcb cleaner and kitchen cloth then isopropyl and cotton buds.

I used to have one that looked different and had a Jamma pinout:

Rotate either your or Devil's picture 180 degrees and you'll see the board layout is identical (though some of the components look different, like the DIP switches).

Anyway, there have been a bunch of cheap PCBs on eBay lately, but some of them were definitely boots. I managed to stay away from those. There was a boot Task Force Harrier for example (seemed to be built into an old Capcom board lol).
