G.Rev Getting a bad name
G.Rev Getting a bad name
In English (translated from german)/German from Gamefront.de
English
25.06.05 - The British EDGE spoke with Hiroyuki Maruyama of G.Rev (Border down) over Nintendo DS and PSP and whether he plans plays for the Handhelds. Maruyama says that many people Nintendo DS hold for a platform of the ideas and concepts, but the use of certain functions like the Touch screen the development liberty would actually limit. If a play would use these functions in natural and unterhaltsame way, then it sees a quantity potential. But if a play uses neither Touch screen nor stylus, it is insignificant on the Nintendo DS. Since one is forced to use these functions one is in-squeezed in a very close development environment. Therefore it has doubts over the future of the NDS. PSP is Maruyamas in opinion only a PlayStation with a beautiful screen, where he does not see preference/advantage. It would give few few interesting plays such as Metal a Gear Acid, where one uses maps, but otherwise not: ' why I should develop for PSP or whereupon play?', supplements Maruyama. ' ways the Wireless functions? If the Wireless network is world-wide available and easily accessible, then I see potential for very interesting developments. But at present PSP is less a console, but rather a business step of Sony - for itself and against Nintendo. When play console regards, I do not see preference/advantage in PSP.'

Why do they post this as news?
This will really give them a bad name at Sony and Nintendo.
It is probably unwise for any developper to comment on any other products a manufacterer makes that you will probably release games for.
Honest, but unwise.
I wonder if Gamefront.de made this news topic or that they copied it from another site.

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
yea, the NDS seems like a potential for innovation, yet also a possible hinder.RoninBuddha wrote:he is being honest about his opinions, i admire that...not that he is bragging somthing, i see no harm in doing so... i kinda agree with him regarding the NDS touch screen thing...
I gave it a thought (it's 3 am now, the thought might suck), and imagine that a vert where you use the top screen for "sky" portion, with no ground enemies and no obstacle but lots of bullets patterns, and the bottom screen for land portion, with all sorts of obstacles from buildings to tall trees to mountains, and lots of ground enemies shooting Raiden aim shots. And completing each level at the different "heights" gives you a different boss & path. I think that would be fun.
And I think there's no harm in their comments though. Sony and Nintendo are probably too big to mind those things. It's just constructive criticism.

Re: err..
I'm not sure if it is wise or not. It is not wise in my opinion, but I'm not a public relation expert. The G.Rev guy probably isn't one either. So it is probably just his honest opinion. Gamefront.de is publishing his words as is, so it's not trying to give him a bad name on purpose (accidentally, maybe).D wrote:You are missing the point.
gamefront.de is trying to give G.Rev a bad name.
And second is it wise for developpers to give such views to the public?
But it does appeal to me as a fan that this guy sounds honest.

Re: err..
I guess you are missing the point here. Gamefront.de just posts the words from the guy himself they do not add any judgement to these words.D wrote:You are missing the point.

Does Edge try to G.Rev a bad name too? No ofcourse not. They just bring the word of the man from G.Rev himself. And the guy has valid points on the PSP and the DS too, nothing wrong about that.
Not if you care for your games to be published on one of both companies consoles. Some companies are extremely sensitive about this sort of remarks. That said, G.REV seems to be doing well enough without Sony or Nintendo so I guess he has no interest/reason to suck up with them. And second is it wise for developpers to give such views to the public?
His honesty is does get him credit from me (not that he cares...) as I hate these people sticking their arms upto the elbows in places where the sun don't shine to just to avoid them disliking them and possibly sanctioning their games for their platforms.
