Help: Ultimarc JPAC w/ PS2 Control Adapter

Post by Chrisz0r »

So I purchased a JPAC and PS2 a Control Adapter PS2 control adapter from ultimarc. Everything works well on the 1p side, but on the 2p side, the buttons work perfectly, but sometimes the joystick would stick to one direction and won't unstick until I press towards that direction again. It happens about every 3-5 mintues. On rare occasions it even says that controller #2 is unplugged for a second then resumes again. I have heard that a lot of other people have been having trouble with the PS2 control adapter. I'll list all of the things I have tried already, but failed to correct the problem:

- Purchased a new JPAC and PS2 control adapter from ultimarc (all with new revisions including the new IC).

- Swapped out Joysticks to make sure it isn't a microswitch problem.

- Switched to another PS2 to make sure it isn't a PS2 controller port problem.

If anyone could help me, I would so greatly appreciate it!

My only tip is to not use Ultimarcs PS2 adapters as they suck ass. Too bad you've already changed your PS2, J-Pac etc, as I'm sure they're all working fine. It's just those adapters = crap.

Thanks. I might just actually put a CPS2 PCB in there and be done with it already. Too much annoyances.

I use my adapter with only 1 player games (that is thankfully pretty much all I play) and for that purpose it works okay. The same issues are going on with Ultimarc's DC controller adapter as well.

look at all the trouble Andy put you through when he knows good and well what the problem is, as he went through this already with me and many others.

I know, that's why I go out of my way to badmouth his products any time I can.

Sorry for being late to the party on this topic, but what exactly is the problem then? And has Andy corrected these in later revisions? Is any of this documented in the ultimarc FAQ? Any other links to his response on the topic?

I only ask because I have a newer version jpac and a pair of these PS2 adapters, but haven't really used them yet.

in my experience you have the stuck directions with both players, not just player 2....i would notice it on the player 1 side occasionally as well

in all fairness andy has fixed a few issues....the constant pausing experienced in some games was fixed with the newer adapters.....

i think the main issue with andy's testing is he doesnt use sticks....he tests everything with keyboards....kinda foolish when its meant to interface in a cab with joysticks

but ya....as nice as andy is in emails, he really needs to fix the issues with these adapters or stop selling them as they obviously dont work as they should....and its not like he announces it on the site....you arent going to find about these issues until you go to use them or read threads like this one...

and he is definitely aware of these issues at this point as antron pointed out....

I went the Dreamcast adapter route, as it says on his website that it works with PS2 as well. But then when I e-mailed him, he said that "No, you'll need a different one for PS2, sorry". I then went on how his site info is fraudulent, and he promptly told me that I would receive a free PS2 adapter as well. This was however not working correctly. I wonder how much of these he sells to people who doesn't care enough to email him.

ya....i gave him shit about that as well....because if you were to actually use the DC adapter with a PS2 it could fry the force feedback circuit....which is what the adapter draws its power from :( ....

and they dont look any different, even if you open them up....if you have a set of both better make sure to label them or always keep the total control adapters hooked up to the DC one

only real complaint i had with the DC ones was the stupid button mapping, but that could have been the total controls adapters, i dunno

i finally just said fuck consoles and now i just stick with PCB's.....much better overall experience

Thanks for posting guys. I'm never going this route ever again. I actually had an older JPAC and PS2 Control Adapter that was giving me the same problems. I emailed Andy about it and he told me that he has chips with new revisions so I went ahead and ordered it from him. It would have been nice of him to actually tell me that there is something wrong with his adapters and could have told me not to buy a new JPAC. :x Now I am out about $100.. in which I could have bought a PCB and be done with it. I have emailed Andy again stating that I still have this problem with the new equipment and I haven't heard from him since.

I will say that he was very good about refunding my money.

Thanks, I'm going to shoot him and email about it. Just wondering what was the refund process though. Did you ship the items back to him? If so, was the shipping reimbursed as well?
