Heat Index?!? Brother, today in Arizona it IS 112 degrees outside. So hot in fact that a "heat advisory" has been put into effect till 8:00 PM tonight. I should also point out that about half of my state is currently on fire as well which creates a nice amber hue over everthing when you go outside. Good times.

The heat index here in OH today was around 94 degrees (88 deg/57% humidity). Even that's a little overpowering- and I wouldn't want to imagine what South Texas or Arkansas was like. Ouch. Over this whole June, the temps have soared somewhat over my 82F average much of the time.
Luckily, some much-needed rain brought today's temps here down into the 70s.

Good one, but it DOES make a difference-ask anyone who's lived in a dry climate and then in a humid one.Davey wrote:Yeah, but it's a dry heat.Jon wrote:Heat Index?!? Brother, today in Arizona it IS 112 degrees outside.
(Sorry, I couldn't resist.)
I was born here in Denver, which is classified as "semi-arid desert", but lived in Boston from Nov. '83, to Jan. '87. The actual average air temperature in Boston doesn't get as high in the summer as it does here in Denver, but trust me, 85 degrees with humidity in Boston feels like about 100 degrees here in Denver. Plus it cools off a LOT more here at night-there can easily be a 50+ difference between our daytime highs, and our nightime lows.
Twitch, just drink a ton of water, and Gatorade as well, and you'll be fine-not that I don't feel for you.
And Jon, I feel for you on the fire troubles; back in 2002 Colorado went through the same thing.
The irony of all this is that my job has me sitting in a lab full of computers all day, which means that the air conditioning is constantly going at full blast. This means it could be 95 degrees outside (it rarely gets much past that here, even though we usually get a couple of solid months of temperatures in the high eighties to mid nineties in the summer) but I'm sitting in the lab all day having to wear a jacket just to keep from freezing.

Stop complaining.
Here in Arizona, it gets as high as 150F / 50C...sometimes higher.
During monsoon season we get humidity with it.
But I'm up in Flagstaff, so I get to escape the insanity in Phoenix
at least untill august, at which time the entire state turns into a blast furnace.

Louisiana heat is brutal, much like east Texas with the humidity factor, hell we just got missed by a tropical storm which could have brought much needed rain and coolness.
Heat here just messes with you, usually 3 seconds after you walk outside you're sweating, and the air has this stickyness feeling to it that's just too damn uncomfortable to be out in.

Well, here in Denver we've had at least several days in the triple digits this month-today's supposed to be 102!
I have an interview at 2 this afternoon; at least I'll be in air conditioning the whole time!
But, supposedly, Hurricane Emily-or what's left of it after it passes over Mexico-will bring an early start to the monsonal season here, which usually starts in late July. Oh mercy I hope so!
