Is Type X2 encryption broken? BB:CS leaked.

Post by mrtie »

Facts are very vague atm but I can confirm this is in fact real and working.

Leads me to wonder if each TTX2 game is using a different encryption system or if it's universal for the system and this is the first opening of the flood gates. No I won't provide info and where to find the files, but anyone willing to flex a little google-fu can find them if interested.

Either way interesting development, I had always thought arcade system running Windows could not stay secure for long.

EDIT: After doing some reading it certainly seems more likely someone got their hands on non encrypted copy of a late LOC test unit, so I have changed the title to reflect that, either way I'll keep my ear to ground about all of this, as it is very interesting either way.

I lol'd at the "WINNERS DON'T USE DRUGS" annotation.

Seriously though, pretty crazy. I thought there was something about this being an unencrypted HD that was stolen? Maybe just a rumor?

Hmm that's crazy!
I'm sure that companies will be more aware of doing PC based arcade games now...

They'll probably just go with a crazier dongle scheme next time. That's the time-honored method for big-ticket PC software. I'm told that Cubase is now at the point where the dongle emulator for the warez release sucks up a considerable amount of CPU time on older machines.

Good thing everyone has quad core monsters now and can offload all that dongle work no problem :P

I guess this is the only way anyone in the EU will play BBCS within the next 2 years.

I doubt the development companies will feel any impact. For games like the superbly balanced BBCS it's not going to stop arcade board sales and the home port will be more attractive (online and story modes). Arcades themselves might feel a hit though, especially single player games, which sucks.

Wait, is this real?
Namely because from what I found, after a few quick Google searches is that there's a leaked near-final beta of BBCS that runs on a normal PC, but nothing on the encryption broken.

Also, nothing on other games.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Isn't just this game specifically? If Type X2's encryption was broken wouldn't a whole slew of HDD dumps for other games based on this hardware be floating around as well?

Hard to say without some kind of announcement from whoever is responsible. It could be something along the lines of having a method to get an unencrypted HDD dump, plus requiring a bunch of manual effort to crack dongle routines.

I know I'm not making this up, but I read somewhere that those SFIV machines that were given away as prizes a few months ago were sent out by Capcom mistakenly with no encryption protection. I couldn't even begin to think where I read that, but I know I did. Anyone else hear similar?
