Imperishable Night - configuration menu, translation needed

Hi all - I'm starting work finally on making a cab for Imperishable Night (complete with artwork and so on). One thing that would help is an understanding of the game configuration tool - in case these settings need changing.

It looks like this:

Is anyone able to translate that please? Might be useful to other players of the game too, and people who play Perfect Cherry Blossom - that has an almost identical looking config.

Try thisfor comparison (EoSD config translation), it looks identical.

I think you're probably right - thanks a lot, very helpful! I'm guessing the preload BGM loads the wav into memory instead of playing it from disk - I will be needing that, the PC that will be powering the cab has a slow disk (to reduce heat output and noise).

your gonna put IN on a Cab?... oh lord!... it wold be great to see that xperiment, since that game looks pretty cool on a TV screen ... and playin it witha good digital stick's gotta be great!...

Yup.

The cab itself is still undecided - it's going to be either a Candy style unit (I have a line on some well priced brand new ones in the UK complete with multisync screens - more info to follow), or it'll be something BIG like an Electrocoin Xenon cab. This all depends on whether I decide to base the art on white backgrounds or black. From a cosmetics point of view, traditional uprights are far easier to decorate - the Japanese cabs really don't have much scope for side art, even the topflash is tiny.

Either way, the screen needs to be able to sync to 31khz. I'm shooting for a multi so the machine can still function as a JAMMA cab too by unplugging the PC. The Candy cabs mentioned above allegedly have these in - I'm taking a look at one this weekend to see if they're any good. If not, I'll have to adapt an existing cab - Hantarex sell Polostar screens still, which are perfect for the task, if a little expensive (UKP330 + tax for the 28" variant).

For the PC side of things, I've bought a Shuttle barebones system (these are small enough to fit in many cashbox areas and use heat tubes to cool the CPU), an Athlon XP 2800+, 512mb of branded ram, and a small 40gb Seagate Barracuda. As well as being cheap, the model in question spins at 5400rpm - this is both quieter and cooler than larger/faster units - important when it's sealed in a cabinet. This is the same reason that I picked a slightly slower XP than available, and the same reason that I bought ram with heatsinks on. Obviously an arcadeVGA card and a J-Pac will be needed. For sound an amplifier board will be needed if the cab doesn't already have one - many newer models already have this.

Plan is to install all three shooters in the series, probably MAME on the PC too (why not..), and set up an autoboot menu for the games, possibly by using one of the more elaborate mame frontends like Maximum Arcade - which can also be set up to launch other emus or batch files (so you could make it easily fire up IN).

That's the Touhou image board - lots of submitted fan art for the games, along with some similar stuff from an anime or manga series. There's over 1000 images on there, some leap out as suitable for side art, one or two in particular would make a perfect topflash or marquee, there are some smaller ones which would look good on a custom control panel overlay arranged around the controls. The art will be printed onto heavy duty vinyl stickers - same stuff they use for car graphics these days. Turns out anything under a metre is actually not as expensive to have made as you might think, even in tiny runs (like 'one of'). The rest of the art will be thin strips with the game name on, stuff like that - depending on the cab of course.

It's coming along nicely now. Tomorrow I'm putting in the new sound system., the PC part is done + dusted (in that directory there's a pic of it running), the control panel has been remade, ditto marquee, all that's left to do it put it together really, and get the artwork professionally printed, instead of printed out on a low end laser printer in sections, taped together.

I'm thinking of having it printed onto canvas in fact - should give a really nice finish I think under the plastic.

Well, there is a text file explaining all the options, their effect and when to use them on this settings menu, when you installed the game on your PC.

This file should be in the most outter dir of the game's folder. I think.

The file is written in Japanese, try plasting the text in an online translator.

Actually i dunno if an arcadevga car d will do the trick. yuou need 3d acceleration for the touhou shooters to work right. assuming the card supports enough direct3d to work, you will be ok.

The arcadevga is just a Radeon 9200 with an edited list of sync frequencies. They're plenty fast enough to do 3d in a 640x480 display. The PC side of things has been done (installed, and tested) for weeks:

One thing I've heard is that the control is more responsive/less laggy with DirectInput turned off. I tried it and didn't notice much difference, but it might vary depending on the computer and controller used. Of course, I imagine you're using a keyboard encoder anyway, so that probably wont' be an issue.

Just tried this, and yes it's definitely true. I always hated playing these games because of the control lag. Thanks for posting this dude.
