Dead or stuck pixel on Laptop

I got a new laptop just over two weeks ago and I have noticed a dead or stuck pixel in the centre of the scree. It is a small red dot in the centre of the screen. While it is not very big it is really annoying and stands out alot on light backgrounds. What options are there avaliable for me to try and solve this? Thank You

Try using udpixel.exe (Undead Pixel), a freeware program. Didn't revive a pixel for me, though.

Also, if it's showing red in white images that means it's the green and blue pixels that are dead.

Huh, I've never heard of software that could "fix" a dead pixel. Help point one out by letting you make color blocks on the screen yes, but fix? Seems rather far-fetched...

Dead pixels are always black and are unfixable. The first way to revive stuck pixels is to push at them gently; a stuck red pixel is generally a good sign for that. Second is to use a scrambler. It's about as farfetched as using a screensaver to protect your screen from burn-in.

Pretty much what Ganelon said. Personally I use my NDS' stylus to fix stuck pixels.

The best fix for a dead pixel is not to notice it.

I was never able to fix my stuck pixels in my laptop or TV, but they didn't show up until i had them a few years.

I tried using one of those scrambler things on my tv set for several hours and it did nothing. Sometimes its red or green but rarely the right color, but it really doesn't stick out unless the whole area is supposed to be black or a dark solid color. Fortunately the tv only has one bad pixel after 7 years.

The rate varies depending on where you go, what model you have and how much they charge you for labor. The replacement screens and labor can cost more than the value of the laptop. These days I would say you start around $300, which is cheap compared to several years ago when sony screens and labor posted around 1k.

They cost quite a bit more than an equivalent sized LCD screen. You don't replace screens for dead pixels unless there are a ton of them in a 1 square inch area however. You learn to deal with them.

EDIT: In your case you were quite fortunate to have it within the return time frame, so that was a good reason to get it replaced. I wouldn't take a new machine with dead pixels if I could avoid it.

I had a psp with a stuck screen but I kept it cause it was the last unit available with 1.5 os on it. hehe

I was told by one of the tech at the apple store that it would cost about $700 to replace the screen on my 15in laptop. That's apple though so I don't know how it would compare to other brands.

In a former life I worked at a computer store for several years and the rule was 5 dead pixels in 1 square inch. Manufacturer usually only gave you one year on this warranty, while if you bought extended plans it continue along with them.

Basically your screwed if you have 5 dead pixels and they all aren't concentrated in a small area.

The ISO 13406-2:2001 standard has been withdrawn and revised by the ISO 9241-302, 303, 305 and 307:2008 standards

can't seem to find the meat of ISO 9241-307:2008 on the net, but it looks like that the manufacturers are still the ones to judge for themselves in which category to put their displays and how many dead pixels tolerance is allowed... (don't you dare make it *too* easy for the consumer)
