Espgaluda II & Egret 2 - No sound...?
Hi!
I am trying to get some sound out of my Egret 2 cabinet and Espgaluda II... I tried with an Atomiswave SD and I had sound there. Any clues? No problems with other games.
Also, a few general checks:
On the system check screen (at bootup), what values are to be expected? Memory, EEPROM, etc?

Have you checked the voltages in your EGRET II?
Tried other games in that cab?
Did you check if the cab sound is set to Monoaural (the top front door to the right)?
Lycka till!

I know that the voltage is a bit high, but I could try to adjust it if I just knew what to touch (Taito's PSUs are intimidating)...
Other games work fine as far as I know, the first Espgaluda being one of them. I also switched between Stereo and Mono a few times to check.
And just to make sure, could -5V be an issue? Shouldn't since Espgaluda 2 doesn't use it, but the Atomiswave cab doesn't have -5V connected and the sound works alright on that one...
Tack tack

Hehe, forgot to mention that I've tried that one as well and still no sound. As I said, Atomiswave cab sounds ok.
Volts: +5 is just above 6V and +12 is just above 13V. Maybe that's the problem after all? BUT HOW TO LOWER THE VOLTAGE ON THESE DARN MACHINES!?

i am refering to the volume pot on the espgaluda 2 PCB itself, not the cab.....NeoBahamut wrote:Hehe, forgot to mention that I've tried that one as well and still no sound. As I said, Atomiswave cab sounds ok.

dont have a pic handy, but it shouldnt be hard to find....its a little pot....
this is an ibara PCB but it should be similar in appearance and positioning
you want the little orange pot to the left by the audio heatsink

That's the one I tried

DUDE, take that board out you're going to fry it.NeoBahamut wrote:Hehe, forgot to mention that I've tried that one as well and still no sound. As I said, Atomiswave cab sounds ok.

Theres a pot on the power supply, take a closer look, use a multimeter and reduce it before playing anything more.
Re: Espgaluda II & Egret 2 - No sound...?
hmmmm....did you check the test menu to see if the sound is enabled?
very odd....i thought for sure that was the problem...it usually is when people complain of no sound/low sound on cave PCB's
hope you sort it out and please post back with your findings
edit:
totally read right past that kern....i read the thread title and thought right away it was down to the volume pot

Kernov: Ok, you mean the blue pot? Only one there...
Re: Espgaluda II & Egret 2 - No sound...?
Yup, take it down to about 5.10 under load (board connected). The 12V will also drop if you do this.

Direction being? (don't want to turn it the wrong way with a board connected...)
Re: Espgaluda II & Egret 2 - No sound...?
Then disconnect the board and find out first
I think its anticlockwise but don't quote me on that.

Re: Espgaluda II & Egret 2 - No sound...?
Meter the JAMMA edge while turning it. Get it to 5.00, then plug the board back in and meter it again.

Humdelihum, that actually did the trick. Sound back on, board working fine!
Many thanks for all attention and help

Hang on!
+5 = 5.06V = all good
+12 = 10.9V = a bit low?

Re: Espgaluda II & Egret 2 - No sound...?
You have more tolerance on the 12v. But try getting the 5v to 5.1 and see what that does to the 12v.

Re: Espgaluda II & Egret 2 - No sound...?
Ok, will do.
One thing though, I accidentally connected -5V and +5V through the multimeter (!!), mistaking -5 för ground. I know that this is a big nono, but what could potentially happen? Both the multimeter and PSU work fine. Could it harm the board I used for testing the voltage?
Voltage up to 5.1, but only a slight increase of +12. Got 10.94 or something now. Should I settle with that?

That should be fine.

You're SO lucky that board started working again.
