Reguarding the "stupid movie names" thread I made yesterday.
Taken from here: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=29777
Since it is now locked for some reason, I don't think I was able to clarify my point. (I guess I was too confusing or something?)
So let's try this again. Is marketing not responsible for what kind of audience the film will attract/offend? They are (at least I think they are) the ones responsible for the name of the film, which will of course have some bearing on who will see it. (Again, it does not make all of the difference.) Look at Deep Throat, Daddy Day Care, Harry Potter, and what the fuck ever. The name both finds and segregates the customers. Would any self respecting adult care to walk in a Cinemark to see Daddy Day Care? Would a Christian be irked at the very thought of being seen watching Deep Throat in the shady theater by work? Etc, etc.
What about names that will attract idiots? Here, I'll list some for you.
Nacho Libre
Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel
It's Complicated
Donnie Darko
Brick
Jesus Camp
MacGruber
Napoleon Dynamite
Jersey Girl
Anyone who is smart would understand that these movies are not worth their time, from just hearing the name.
I have not seen or heard anything about 'It's Complicated' besides it's name. The title alone let's me know that it's another childish love comedy with Jen Aniston and Ben Affleck or something. Marketing knows where it will be getting it's money from: Stupid people.
There are plenty of them. Even 'Die Hard' attracts a certain undesirable element. (Desirable by the studio's standards, though.)
So yes, there are plenty of romance, action, suspense, and horror films that have dumb names; but when I first noticed this, it was upon seeing a poster for The Darjeeling Limited. It was my mistake to sound like I was disregarding the entire genre as terrible movies. (but a lot of them are.)

Brick was pretty good. Definitely a solid modern take on film noir.

You are all over the place. Ever hear the saying, "Don't judge a book by its cover"? It applies to more than just books, buddy!
I can't even begin to fathom what sort of movies you enjoy, but you do not come across as the least bit intelligent.

I guess I'm still not getting what point you're trying to make. Initially you were referring to the names of independent movies, but your definition of that kind of movie was more about the content than how the movie was made.
I can understand thinking that movies have dumb names, but I guess I need some explanation as to why you think the examples you used are bad. For example how is Donnie Darko a worse title than say, Robin Hood. Both titles are simple the name of the main character. Or are both bad names in your opinion, and why?
ps- resurrecting a locked thread probably isn't a good idea.

starting a nonsensical thread that got locked and then starting another thread to continue the conversation....not smart....are you trying to set the record for fastest ban?
and as others have said....you make no sense.....
also...the funniest thing in all this is you have 'drunken starsailor' bitching about gay names.....

It's ironic how people would judge you by your cover if you weren't willingly showing everyone that that beautiful peach actually has maggots inside. If you were a movie, you'd be You Got Served.

To jonny5
My name serves as a reminder of what I do not want to be. I want to understand everything, and that takes a clear head.jonny5 wrote: also...the funniest thing in all this is you have 'drunken starsailor' bitching about gay names.....
I can't see what I do not understand (the stars) from here. I must earn the right to that view. When I was more naive, I thought I was entitled to everything. I thought I knew everything. But I didn't and I still do not. I was drunk with ignorance. One day I will understand and you will still be here, in this forum, sounding like a moron. Everything I see now is from an earthly perspective. That is not good enough for me. I will not allow you or anyone else to hold me down.
Ban me. Lock this thread again. Do your worst, fagots. It does not make any difference to me.

Judging books by their cover is not drunk with ignorance and is a totally earthly perspective.
