Tatsunoko VS Capcom Ultimate All-Shooters

Post by durias »

Capcom is adding a new overhead shooter mini game for the upcoming international release of Tatsunoko VS Capcom. Looks like a shmup to me. How do you see it?

Cool considering that Eighting is doing the game :)

Oh wow, I completely forgot about this detail. I think I might just get this after all now.
I hope they revisit Bloody Roar some day.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

I have the original release of the game and it's quite good. The only real problem I had was a lack of people to play it with - but perhaps the US release will convince more people to get it. The shmup minigame looks cute. I'm guessing it's no more than 10 minutes long, but it's still a welcome addition.

The minigame was in the JP release as well, but word is that the US version's is greatly expanded from the original. Could be fun as a diversion, though the main game itself promises to be awesome.

Really? Hah, I never even noticed it. I should put that back in and see.

Wow, guess Capcom's shooting forefathers were away on business when someone designed that mini-game

Agreed. It's cool that they're putting it in there, but it looks meh at best.

And yes, in the original Japanese version you could only play as the big robot thing from that weird Capcom game P.N. 03 or whatever it was called, from what I read. But now you can apparently play as a few other characters, as well.

Honestly, that reminds me more of the NES X-Men game than a shmup. But it may still be fun.

I usually don't mind this, but those backgrounds are shockingly bland ..

Not surprising considering the backgrounds in the fighting portion of the game are extremely bland too.

I picked up TvC over the weekend (woo for Kmart breaking street date!) and unlocked the shooter minigame shortly after. Basically you have to grab all the yellow letters in the credits during the credits minigame.

As for the game itself, it kind of reminded me of playing Commando on the Atari 7800. You can wander around the screen, but it slowly autoscrolls upward. Your character takes a second to turn around so you can get stuck shooting in the wrong direction, which does kind of suck. Basically you have a main weapon that gets powered up with items, a subweapon, and a special attack - both of which require you to pick stuff up to use.

It's pretty basic, there's only so many kinds of enemies and such. Apparently there's also branching paths, but I haven't figured out how that works yet. Also, each of your player characters have different attacks - PTX has a machine gun, shotgun, and rockets for his attacks, whereas Ryu has a fireball, mule kick, and hurricane kick for his.

It's not like, super amazing or anything, but it's pretty fun. It also gives you a shitload of money ingame to buy stuff from the game shop with!
