Beware of fake Wiimotes

Post by UnscathedFlyingObject »

I just got a stinker Wiimote and Nunchuk from Amazon. You might want to think twice before ordering Wii controllers and accessories from them. I've contacted them and I'm returning the items. I'll never buy any shit from them again if I don't get my cash back.

As to how I know they are fakes, it's almost evident once you look at them close and use them. The built quality of the fakes aren't as good. The surface of the controllers aren't as shiny and are slightly warped (sign of cheap QA,) buttons aren't as responsive (especially the A and B buttons,) and the nunchuk requires force to fit in the Wiimote to name a few things.

I recommend you buy your Wii controllers from a brick and mortar store and check them in front of the clerks before leaving. It's hard to tell from the packaging. They might have fakes too. Bring an original just in case you don't have an eye for fine detail.

Which items did you buy exactly? Amazon doesn't sell fake Wiimotes.

I find this hard to believe. Maybe if you bought from some random seller on Amazon there could be a possibility of a fake, but if you were buying an item from Amazon itself I find it highly unlikely they'd be selling knockoff merchandise.

Bought a Wiimote Controller and a Nunchuk attachment from Amazon themselves. If you look at the 1 point reviews, someone else had the same problem. Amazon probably won't sell fake stuff but they might have gotten a bad batch from their suppliers. I mean, you can't tell easily from the packaging.

Here's a link that describes pretty much what I got:

Only, of course, I got mine directly from Amazon, not sellers, Ebay or any bullshit like that. Don't tell me I didn't warn you guys if you get a fake one from them.

Do you have any info on the packaging differences?
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

The packaging looks very convincing. The only thing you could look out for is less than perfect printing on the cardboard inside. They even include a set up manual for the Wiimote and tie the nunchuk cable neatly.

Edit: gotta point out that I don't have any original packaging to compare against.

This thing has been sorted out and I received a refund from Amazon. I still ended up losing some money and time with this whole ordeal, but it's better than being completely sacked.
