The concept is awesome!
However the ship designs are very lacking! They look more like Space Invaders on steroids or something from Star Control on the AMIGA and the PC from the early 90s. They should have adopted a more awe-inspiring and imposing design, like the immense star ships from Macross, or Gall Force and should have even added the devastating Planet-System destroyers from Gall Force - Destruction and Gall Force - Stardust Wars.

I liked Gratuitous Space Battles from the demo, but it didn't seem to have much depth. You can win virtually any battle with giant stationary battle stations. Watching the awesome-looking battles got old when I realized there wasn't much variety to the battles.

Apparently this uses the same ship system as Battleships Forever (yeah, name based on Warning Forever)
Not liking the ship design in those trailers either.

I bought it last month, finally got around to trying it this week for a little while. Reminds me of a more fleshed out version of the A.I. versus mode in R-Type Final, with a little dash of tower defense style strategic initial positioning. Due to the minimal player involvement, it's not something that really holds my attention for more than a few minutes at a time, but it's a neat way to generate dynamic space battles with minimal player effort. Fine indie product.

Re: Immense Space Battles Strategy Game!
Why didn't the developer of this game just use spaceship designs from shoot em ups and anime?
The end result would have looked immensely better.
