xbox360 ( component cables vs. hdmi)

I am out of hdmi inputs on my lcd. Is the difference THAT noticable between component and hdmi? My other tv only had 1 hdmi input and I bought a splitter but that was kind of pricey for a quality one. This jp360 is going to be a shmup only system b/c I have a ps3, given that do you think hdmi is necessary?

There is a difference. I wouldn't say its huge, but its there. YMMV.

The difference is significant. Even more so if your HDTV has certain image processing features only available in its digital mode.

i say there is little difference as long as your tv can display 1080p over component. Specially if its a name brand tv. If a cheaper brand then you may get some ghosting. the size as well if its larger the 47" there maybe a bigger difference.another difference may be the sound. Just keep the component cables as short as you can and unlike hdmi the quality of cables matter.
does your tv have vga , that could be another way to go.

BTW you can buy a remote controlled hdmi switch for cheap these days. I use one as i only have 2 ports as well but like 5hdmi cables.
i got one from joytech for ~40 when they came out supports 1080p and had no hdcp issues except for my viewsonic media center everything else is sweet.

I'd actually suggest Monoprice for an HDMI switch - they have a great one that comes with a remote that several of my friends use without issue, HDCP and all.

From a purely technical standpoint (and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but this is how I understand it), HDMI is superior as it gets the image to you without any analog conversions. If you were to use component, the game console is forced to convert the image to an analog signal, which the TV then reconverts to digital. The two biggest problems with this process are the loss of dot to dot pixel mapping and the possibility of introducing lag. HDMI also has the added advantage of being able to report the exact native resolution of your display - this is especially important with 720p flat panels that actually display 1366x768, since there's no way for component to properly accommodate that oddball resolution.

I'm pretty sure this is answered in the Japanese 360 owners thread, but yes, Japanese power bricks will work fine from a US power outlet. If something happens to the Japanese brick, you can also use an American one without issue (my Japanese power brick was actually DOA and stateside MS support gladly replaced it).

The only difference is that a JP Pro/Elite might come with D-Terminal instead of component cables, but this wouldn't matter if you're using HDMI anyway.
