I haven't played Uncharted 2, but that sounds a lot like what I got out of the first Uncharted. There's a few areas that are entertaining, but mostly it's ducking behind a wall and getting shot at by 12 guys, taking them out, then ducking behind the next wall and getting shot at by 12 more guys. I made it to about chapter 10, before I went online to figure out how much more of this there was. Not sure I'm all that inclined to bother finishing it at this point.dannnnn wrote:Finished Uncharted 2: Among Thieves earlier tonight. I'm astounded at how overrated this game is, seriously. It's everything I hate about modern games; the gameplay feels about as shallow as it gets, it's like you're on auto-pilot the whole time. It repeatedly switches from being a very average third-person shooter to a very basic take on Prince of Persia's (the PS2/GC/XB games) platforming... and that's it. Oh but it does have tons of cinematic set-pieces and cutscenes, so that 96 score on Metacritic is totally justified then.

i got in a little late but i am playing borderlands. when the game first came out i though it was like fallout 3 ( i gave F3 a chance but did not like it) so i waited for gamefly to ship it to me. got played it and got stuck the 2nd or 3rd task , started to hate it so stopped playing it. Gave it another chance during xmas break fell in love with the game finished the 1st play through. I think this only the 2nd or 3rd game i finished on the 360. Was checking out my achievements and i unlocked 650 of them by far the most of any of the 160 + games ive played.
I really hope they come out with a goty edition as i have no way of downloading the dlc and want to try that out. Plus i want to buy the game anyway.

Borderlands is a fun game for sure. I've put in quite a lot of time on my soldier now and I have my main weapon profs. maxed as well as a bunch of others on the way there. I'm surprised that I am still finding it a lot of fun to just boot him up and kill a bunch of enemies.icbluscrn wrote:i got in a little late but i am playing borderlands. when the game first came out i though it was like fallout 3 ( i gave F3 a chance but did not like it) so i waited for gamefly to ship it to me. got played it and got stuck the 2nd or 3rd task , started to hate it so stopped playing it. Need to get back to this soon as I would like to get each toon to at least 50.
In the meantime I've been playing Lego Indiana Jones 2 which is quite entertaining. Silly fun really, shame about the few annoying parts and useless vehicle sections.

Hmm, I need to give Borderland's another go I suppose. Tried it out when it was released, beat the first boss and got bored with it. Maybe a second go would wake my interest.

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
I rented Darksiders on a whim. I find it incredibly amusing that they chose Liam O'brian to portray the horseman of war. That's some bizarre casting. Choosing Mark Hamill as the scary sidekick/watchdog, though, was inspired.
The game is entertaining enough for a while, but it really starts to drag at the end (the final dungeon gives you the gun from Portal and forces you to do all kinds of annoying puzzles for hours and hours. Then, when you finish that up, you have to go on a fetch quest across the world map to grab the scattered pieces of a mystical super weapon that nobody even mentioned or cared about until five minutes before you were supposed to fight the last boss. So you get all of those and it's just busy work, and the final boss is a complete anti-climax, both in design and gameplay. Eh.)

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
Pokemon Platinum and Pokemon Gold.
In Gold, I'm trying to get through with only 4 Pokemon: Squirtle, Celebi, Cyndaquil, and Pidgey. Going pretty well so far.
In Platinum, I have to beat the Champion in 4 days, because one of my friend is going to give me a fuckton of Pokemon, but I need access to Pal Park because he doesn't have a DS, he only has the GBA games. The Champion has Pokemon 10 levels higher than me. Commence grinding like a bitch.

I'm almost ashamed to admit it, but NFL Blitz 99.
Aside from that, I've been playing Ironclad and Neo Bomberman on Neo Geo, (though I suppose Ironclad is a shmup), and Hot Shots Golf on PS3. I was playing Demon's Souls for a while, but that just got to be too much for me.

God Of War 1 from GoW Collection. Stuck in the room with statue of Atlas, a door-with-a-crack and the lever on the second floor that does not react to me pressing R2

In an alternate universal, Soldier Blade II has already been crafted by Hudson Soft and Compile with proper tate this time around (c) PC Engine Fan X!

Momotarou Katsugeki - very fun platformer for PC Engine. But me and my friend gave up on the final stage, and after that we realized that we had played it on the hardest difficulty (damn japanese menus
), so some day this week we will beat it in normal mode or something
Bionic Commando - The 360/PS3-game. Awesome! Seems like a very short game, and it's pretty.. repetitive. But still a lot of fun!

einhander u ran into one of the game ending glitches in atlas i assume, it was also in the original ps2 version, something to do with never ever go near the lever on the top ledge before you finish rotating all the atlas thing with the boulders. hope your game didnt glitch all the way, it happened to me before too and many others in the ps2 version :/

I have been playing New Super Mario Bros Wii and a bit of Wonder Boy in Monster Land on SMS. I have been played the latter in English on my PBC, but I'll play in in Japanese with the FM on the JP SMS after I beat it (bosses take more hits in JP mode). Too bad WBIII doesn't seem to like my JP SMS.

Finished Star Ocean 2 yesterday, a lot of fun. Definately the best plot in a Star Ocean game, at least better than 3 and 4, and the item creation system is far more integrated into and essential to the main campaign than the other games. Just running about gaining some levels and building myself up for the Maze Of Tribulations and some GC and EQ bashing.

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
Well, I said in another thread I was gonna post about this somewhere, so here goes:
I just downloaded Serious Sam HD and Weapon of Choice.
Serious Sam's... you know, it's all right. It's the same game. I don't usually care about graphics at all (except Gradius 4's, which make me physically ill) unless they're sprite based, so an update is lost on me, but I never owned the original so that was my main motivation.
Weapon of Choice is a pleasant surprise. I bought it solely on the recommendation of Scott Sharkey from some podcast or other and it's a good time. There's a lot of movement and scrolling going on in the backgrounds, which I appreciate, and some of the monsters are really clever. Because of that, though, I was kind of let down by two out of the three last bosses. They just don't feel as big, weird or exciting as I was hoping.
Uh.. another than that, I've been playing a lot of Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles. I thought the shaky cam nonsense would annoy me, but they only really do it in times where you're not meant to shoot anything, anyway/not in danger. In fact, if you DO manage to down an enemy or two during that time, you get a bonus. And I'm not sure, but I think they wisely left out any sort of accuracy indicator, since that'd be kind of a slap in the face.
It makes me wish they'd do a full blown, legitimate remake of RE2, though, because some of the bosses just look awesome and are able to do things that wasn't really possible with the technology they had to work with. ...Maybe I do care about graphics a little bit, after all.
And it would be nice if they'd go ahead and do another, better lightgun version of RE3, because they completely half-assed it in Umbrella Chronicles.

Dead Space (hit a point that's a bit...too...much...)
Bayonetta (beat it, but still feel like I suck)
Demon's Souls (haven't touched it in a month, gotta get back into it.)

About to start Crimson Sea, Gunvalkyrie (maybe I'll play it this time), Panzer Dragoon Orta (I've never beaten it; the first time I played it was...five or six years ago?), FFI&II Dawn of Souls, and Star Ocean 2. I'm going to go on a marathon non-STG-spree after I play a few credits tonight.
Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
