which shmup should I play?

Post by greyfalco »

There are only 2 shmups at my local arcade: "Dimahoo" and "Strikers 1945 III". I've played both, and I do far better at Strikers in both survival and score...but that's only led to intrigue me a bit more about Dimahoo. Anyhow, I'd like your completely subjective opinion - if you were I - what would you play? (and why, if you'd like)

-grey.

(edit: ooh, I'll make it a poll)

Guess you should go along and try to play the game which is more fun to you. Anyone have another taste, so you couldn't rely on the other shmup fans.

But you propably didn't want to hear that awnser. So...

I have only played Dimahoo so I can't tell you if you should rather play Strikers 1945 III.

But I think Dimahoo is a really hard shmup and the scoresystem is really irritating. So I'd reccomend you to play more Strikers 1945 III, afterall you said you get better along with that game.

Really doesn't matter what we think, play the one that entertains you the most like EDGE said, thats what I would do.

Personally, I have not played Dimahoo...so Strikers would be my shmup of choice if I walked into that arcade and had a choice.

I cannot tolerate cigarette smoke so I stopped going to my local arcade...home is the best spot for me as SheSaidDutch put it.

I've only played a little of Strikers III, but IIRC it's not a heck of a lot more complicated than the earlier Strikers games (though I might be wrong), so if you want something a bit simpler you might go for that. Dimahoo, on the other hand, being a Raizing game, has a lot of hidden depth, so that you'll probably need to read an FAQ over thoroughly in order to play the thing properly...if you're more into that sort of thing, try Dimahoo.

Or, as others suggested, play a bit of both.

I envy you either way. Those are 2 of my favorite shmups (and probably have the most playtime on my mame cab).

Dimahoo is alot harder to be consistent at than Strikers 1999.

Strikers 1999 seems easier to pick up and the 1st round bosses aren't too bad (especially if you learn the tech-bonus patterns).

Dimahoo has some wicked bosses with loads of parts to blow off and it keeps getting harder the more you blow them apart.

Dimahoo can be frustrating when you are trying to complete sets and it's alot to remember. I ***HATE*** having to hold the 1P start button and hit another button to bring up the list of items. They should have made a little grid always visible at the bottom to show what you've picked up. HUGE oversight IMO.

Dimahoo has a pretty big variation in characters and each requires you to play differently.

Strikers has a decent variation and requires somewhat different play, but not as much as Dimahoo.

Dimahoo's level 5 boss music is some of my favorite.

But my choice would still be Strikers 1999 (also depends on how much time you want to put into them, Dimahoo requires more time).
