Arcana Heart 3

Post by Cthulhu »

This series has always gotten mixed reviews here, but I figured I'd mention it this since, well, why not... Arcana Heart 3 is being made and has apparently already finished its first location test. Official site: http://www.examu.co.jp/arcanaheart3/.

Looks like they're competing with SNK in terms of reusing sprites - I'm seeing some stuff from the first game in the shots / vids. The home port of 2 was... um... quite awful, but I'll still probably buy the rather inevitable port of this one as well. PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE put it on the 360 or PS3, something with enough memory to handle it. No more chunkville from 2 is needed. (I'm sure the developers are actively scanning these forums for opinions. :P )

Examu Inc are making it, eX-Board is the hardware. There's no point complaining about reusing sprites, everybody does it and it's completely understandable given how time consuming it is. And what would you achieve? You don't want to mess up the hitboxes and moves, so you're going to redraw... the same thing. You could add more frames, but it doesn't matter.

Anyway, all I know about Arcana Heart 3 is they added nu-13 and, uncharacteristically, a 5 year old.

I don't know much about Arcana Heart but nu-13 sounds eerily similar to a character from BlazBlue named Nu/V-13. Is there a connection?

She doesn't seem to play very similar, but she does fire swords and have a weird character in her name for no reason.

Once you got used to the glacial framerate in some fights, 2 really was quite cool. Once you learned how to chain moves well you could pull off some really impressive (and really fun) stuff.

I can't blame the porters too much, as the PS2 has something like 32 MB of ram and the arcade board has 1 GB. Hence my begging for a different system.

you have to ask weather they chose to use the PS2 not because of the power more because it was cheaper than the PS3 and was not filthy western xbox dogshit (not my words).

Or because the PS2 user base at the time was still many times that of the PS3 and the PS3 hadn't gotten the sales momentum it does now.

this was under six months ago it was released for PS2 right? I guess PS3 is still a pricey machine though. PS2 has been the most widespread console ever.

Pretty much. It was in the name of $. How did that PS2 port of AH2 eventually fare in sales?

I don't think it sold very well, but I don't think it was expected to sell very well either. It's a niche game no matter how you measure it. Whether they made or lost money on it is probably hard to say regardless.
