Capcom vs. SNK Cardfighters DS. Never played a card fighting game in my life (well, save that one in FF8). Cool concepts, but the randomness of some of the battles is a little disappointing (difficult enemies sometimes do absolutely stupid moves leaving themselves wide open).

Yeah, definitely the best of the FF series [IMHO, although most will agree that it's at least one of the better ones].sjewkestheloon wrote:FF6 is a gem. Nice and tight construction, a no nonsense RPG.
Also, Pokemon Platinum. Not bad. I wish the player sprite didn't look so stupid though, considering I'll be looking at it for the next 16 hours or so.

I've been playing Eschalon: Book 1 by indie developer Basilisk games. It's a single-player RPG with a good storyline and a lot of freedom to explore on your own. The sequel, Book 2, is supposed to be out sometime in the next couple of months.

Just had a burst on the XBLA port of Speedball 2.
It's still got it. I was shouting 'YES' when getting goals, still plays like a dream. Still a valid pick for the best arcade sports game ever.

New Super Mario Bros. on Wii. It's pretty swell, just damn, damn easy. They just throw extra lives at you though they max out at 99.
Feedback will set you free.

I don't care what the reviews have said (and boy have they said a lot), I've been enjoying this trilogy.

Never really played this back in the day so I'm giving it a try now. Halfway through chapter 1 and loving it.

If you have the original Heretic, go here. You can download the patches, and extra episode to upgrade it to "Shadow of the Serpent Riders".Ruldra wrote:Never really played this back in the day so I'm giving it a try now. Halfway through chapter 1 and loving it.

Played the crap out of Heretic back in the day. Shadow of the Serpent Riders is pretty good, definitely more challenging than the original 3 episodes.

I was able to make it work on PSP. The game is awesome, both gameplay and visual design just reek Gunstar Heroes. It's worth fighting with PC emus or PS2

Playing through Metroid Prime, probably will go for Echoes after I finish. Gamecube is pretty great for cheap good gaming.

I've been playing the XBLA version of Ticket to Ride. Catan led me to getting Ticket to Ride and Carcassone... now I want more board games on XBLA. It's weird because I haven't really played any board games regularly since I was a kid.
I only played it on an actual PS1, though, so no help there.
Meh. I thought it was pretty mediocre, especially compared to Gunstar.EinhanderZwei wrote:The game is awesome, both gameplay and visual design just reek Gunstar Heroes. It's worth fighting with PC emus or PS2

Heretic is probably my third favorite fps (behind Ultimate Doom and Doom II). Make sure you keep playing after you beat D'Sparil -- episodes 4 and 5 are excellent.Ruldra wrote:Never really played this back in the day so I'm giving it a try now. Halfway through chapter 1 and loving it.

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
I've popped Star Ocean 4 back in over the last few days to get back to working on some Battle Trophies. Definately not something I can do full time game wise as the grind is chronic. I do, however, need to do a run on Chaos difficulty as well as a couple on Normal so I can mess with different characters.
I'm also playing Star Ocean 2 on the PSP. Best story of the series so far and the battle system's pretty good too.

Got Torchlight during that $5 deal on Steam, been playing it. Even though it's little more than a more cartoony Diablo clone, I'm having a blast with it.

I wouldn't bother, it's turbo mediocre. I think I paid a quid for it a year ago, and I still felt a bit short changed.Rob wrote:Has anyone here played Gunner's Heaven with an emulator? Can't get it to work in ePSXe or pSX.

Finished Uncharted 2: Among Thieves earlier tonight. I'm astounded at how overrated this game is, seriously. It's everything I hate about modern games; the gameplay feels about as shallow as it gets, it's like you're on auto-pilot the whole time. It repeatedly switches from being a very average third-person shooter to a very basic take on Prince of Persia's (the PS2/GC/XB games) platforming... and that's it. Oh but it does have tons of cinematic set-pieces and cutscenes, so that 96 score on Metacritic is totally justified then.

What did you expect from an action-adventure game then? Uncharted 2 met all of my expectations that it would be as good as the original was and include even more action. Sorry bro but your opinion seems flawed to me since I don't even know what you expected from this game in first place. Also because it's linear it is bad? What the f` dude? Aren't 99% of modern games linear? Alright outside that, playing both Battlefield: Bad Company (Multiplayer now, SP's ending was genius) and Killzone 2. It's gonna take months before I get everything on both of them haha.dannnnn wrote:Finished Uncharted 2: Among Thieves earlier tonight. I'm astounded at how overrated this game is, seriously. Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
After all the rave reviews, I was expecting a good game - you know, something with a bit of playability and challenge. I suppose I should've know better than to pay much attention to Metacritic though for obvious reasons.
I also think the GoW games are a couple of overrated third-person shooters, but they're still much better than this. Playing Uncharted 2 is like watching a Hollywood blockbuster movie that pauses every now and again and says "Press this, this and this to continue to the next cutscene".
Where in my post did I say that linearity's necessarily bad? I didn't. I said the PoP-style platforming sections are basic. In PoP, each room is like a large puzzle to navigate your way through. In Uncharted 2, you find the nearest red/white/yellow set of bricks on a wall and press X, or if there aren't any around you can just wait for a minute and the game will show you where to go... so what's the point? The game basically plays itself.
If you enjoyed the game - good for you, everyone's entitled to their own opinion.
