Mid-Missouri Shmupmeet NEW DATE May 1st

Post by gunbird18 »

Calling all Midwest Shmup Fans,

I am ready to host a Spring Meet!!!

Saturday, May 1st, 2010 in Moberly, MO.

We will have 2, possibly 3 Candy Cabs.
PCBs of every shape, size, and company.
Consoles, TVs, and 2 Pinball Machines.

VENUE: gunbird18's cave

Time: 10 am to ???

HIGH SCORE CONTESTS:

On the candy cab: Dodonpachi High Score run. 1 Credit. To make things interesting: Ship type you choose will be determined by the roll of a 12 sided dice. Power up option will be decided by the roll of a 6 sided dice.

On the consoles: If someone has a Turbo Duo or Duo R and Soldier Blade we can do this, or I have Soldier Blade on the Wii Virtual Console. Keeping it in the same vein as drboom's meets, we will give the 2 minute challenge a shot.

Prizes to be determined. DDP is going to be interesting!

We will head out to a local restaurant if we can bring ourselves to leave the awesome display of games. Bring enough money to feed yourselves. The games will be free.

Please RSVP by PM and I will send out the address for Mapquest.

Hopefully this is far enough ahead that you can clear your weekend for some great gaming.

Thanks!

You know I'll be there  - and I'l RSVP for Dave. If Andi or any of the other Chicago cats are interested, shoot me a pm and we'll see if there's space.

Should be able to bring an Astro to the meet - as well as about a dozen pcb's.

Barring some crazy event happening, I should be able to attend at this moment. My whole lineup of PCB's is available for play, a lot less than it used to be, but still probably close to 100 pcb's.

I started working the angles tonight, and suggested my wife invite her folks for the weekend or something. I actually got a pretty good response so I'm going to plan to attend. I've got really young twins so they're a handful alone.

Let me know what games you'd like to see. I think I sent you a list a while back and I've still got most of those.

Here's my somewhat current list. Current as in all sold items removed, but not all bought items added.

http://www.klov.com/members/member_deta ... _id=398833

Off the top of my head, I have Fever SOS, Dragon Blaze, Diet Go Go, and a whole mess of Neo Geo carts that are not on that list. Also, my TMNT and Simpsons are now 2p roms in case anyone wanted to play those.

Let's see here, roll call:

drboom-check
caldwert-check
stuminator-check
brentsg-looking positive
Dav...Wha? Dave might not make it??? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Oh, we can still borrow Ketsui, Deathsmiles, RS, Outzone? 8)
Would still like to see you, bro!
Joe T. as well.

Looking good so far. Just need to get szycag and a few more on board and we will have a nice party going!

brentsg - If you were attending just because you wanted to see Moberly, woooo doggies, do we have a treat for you! You may never find a better gathering place of rednecks, hillbillys, cowboys, and trailer park Bettys, than our own Moberly, MO!

caldwert - I don't know the square footage or anything, but this is a big space. Lots of open area inside a college cafeteria.

As far as what to bring, we don't need to be doubled up on anything.

I guess you could just give a short list of the "must-plays" (ie Cave/Raizing titles) that you have and we can go from there.

I know stuminator has Dragon Blaze and Dangun Feveron. I would like to see those here. drboom has some AAA titles. brentsg has some nice Cave titles, would be great to have them here. I have Batrider, Bakraid, Ibara, Raiden Fighters Jet, Viper Phase 1 New Version, and Aero Fighters (for the Video System fanboys).

caldwert can bring the Simpsons for a fun time, plus a variety of his stash. (I hope he didn't sell Omega Fighter!!!)

I will get with drboom and see if we can set up a Caravan Score Challenge. Love those PC Engine shmups!!!

Omega Fighter Special hasn't even been turned on since that meet, lol. I can bring Alcon, Vapor Trail, Mars Matrix, Progear, 1944, or whatever anyone wants to see. I'm open to whatever. I think we'll pretty much have all of our bases covered. I do have a JP 360, and a Turbo Duo. So those are up for grabs as well.

edit: Forgot I can bring Dimahoo and Mahou as well.

Also, I would like to suggest perhaps a scoring competition on something totally random. Granted this probably favors me due to my ever random mix of PCB's, but I promise I wouldn't play them beforehand. Just for a fun side distraction.

I'll bring whatever PCBs folks want to play, though my stuff is mostly Cave. I do have Garegga with Zakk's rom.. If for some reason I can't make it, I'll send some boards along.

I'd love to play:
-Other Raizing titles
-Progear
-Dangun Feveron

My collection is mostly Psikyo, Dragon Blaze, all 3 Strikers and recently acquired Gunbird 2. I've also got Dangun Feveron and Donpachi.

2 cabs right now. Egret 2 for Vert/Horis and Astro for Verts...Hey, I know, caldwert, you could take the monitor out of your cab for easy transfer upstairs, put it back in the cabinet, and you could haul it in an Explorer or Van (assuming you have one or the other). BAM! 3 cabs! :D

Geoff might be persuaded to bring his NEC XM29??? That would be awesome!!! Otherwise, I have a 32 inch regular tube TV that has S-Video. Not much choice there. Bringing your Duo is awesome. That way we can have 2 PC Engine games going at the same time, therefore less of a line to play.

I have a Hi-Saturn if anyone wants to bring any of their Saturn games. My collection has dwindled. I have a JP Region DC if anyone has a stash of DC games. We could get out of hand on consoles, but I am guessing that the Duo and Duo-R are going to get a lot of attention.

I can bring the NEC for sure and the Duo-R with some Soldier titles. I'd love it if someone brought some Soldier Blade!

We should definitely have a scoring contest - we can always do the two-minute mode in Dangun. That should keep some people busy!

For pcb's, I'll have:
Batrider
Garegga w/zakk roms
Air Gallet
Sky Shark
Tatsujin
Twin Cobra
ESP Ra De
Ketsui
DOJ
Deathsmiles
Progear
Radient Silvergun
Souky
Out Zone
...and maybe some others. Working on picking up a rare Toaplan masterpiece...(got to stop buying sneakers...)

My Duo has the sound bug issue where the capacitors are going bad so the sound is scratchy, but its only right when it starts up. Other than that, it could probably use the usage. I don't have a whole lot on Duo as far as shooters though. I'm not sure if I'd bring a cabinet or not, we'll have to see what the space issues look like at the time or what car I'd be driving or how many cabinets I own at that point. I guess we have a little time to figure it out, lol.

One question though, if we're at the college, then will your pinball machine be there? You know I'll want to be playing that. Also, will there be black lighting, cigarette smoke, and loud noises to simulate real arcades? Perhaps we should consult PC Engine Fan X so we get our setup right.

Well if someone badly needs to play some Saturn or DC shooter let me know as I'll have it. I've also got a decent number of PCE games, and can bring Soldier Blade.

In terms of Cave, I don't have older boards but aside from Mushi and Pink Sweets, will pretty much have everything else covered if desired. I don't have any good sneakers, however.

Edit: I guess that's not true. I never picked up vanilla DS or Futari BL and I sold EspII.

#1 - This is a "Christian" college.

#2 - The students will be on "Spring Break".

#3 - Pinball machine folds up tight. It will be there if we are there.

As we get closer to the date, I will make the major decision of where this is going to be. I think it will be at the college if my family stays home. If I talk my wife and kids into leaving for the in-laws, then we will keep it in the "gunbird18 shmup dungeon". Black lights would look so cool in the basement!

And if we are going to get PC Engine Fan X to weigh in on the correct "arcade" set-up, I will not be happy unless PC Engine Fan X is there in person!!! ^_~

I was kidding about the cigarette smoke and loud noises. I don't smoke anyway, so I could care less. Now the loud noises, eh yeah more bs there as well, haha. So Brentsg did you sell the Pink Sweets I sold you? You probably reached the same conclusion I did. Make it about half way through the third level and go how in the hell can you beat this without a rapid fire setup?

So the available PCB list will look like this based on this thread, duplicates removed:

drboom:
Armed Police Batrider
Battle Garegga w/zakk roms
Air Gallet
Sky Shark
Tatsujin
Twin Cobra
ESP Ra De
Ketsui
DOJ
Deathsmiles
Progear
Radient Silvergun
Souky
Out Zone

stuminator:
Dragon Blaze
Strikers 1-3
Gunbird 2
Dangun Feveron
Donpachi

gunbird18:
Battle Bakraid
Ibara
Raiden Fighters Jet
Viper Phase 1 New Version
Aero Fighters

caldwert:
1944
19XX
Aero Fighters 2 MVS
Alcon aka Slap Fight, jamma version
Detana Twin Bee
Dimahoo
Dragon Breed
Fighter & Attacker
Fixeight
Game Paradise
Guwange
Legend of Air Cavalry aka Chopper I
Last Mission
Mahou Daisukasen
Mars Matrix
Omega Fighter Special
Raiden Fighters
Sengoku Ace
Strikers 1945 Plus MVS
Three Wonders
Twin Eagle
Vapor Trail
Vasara
XX Mission

That's a pretty sick lineup really. Perhaps we'll need a 3rd or 4th cabinet. I'll have to see my situation in April, but we can't just have 2 cabinets with all these PCB's there, unless someone has some superguns or something.
