21.... less said the better. having just graduated (2.1 baby :):):)) and being grossely unemployed my time is pretty much all on the job hunt or taking out frustration on shmups.

for my age i seem to have some strange introductions into shmups. first it was gynoug (wings of wor) on the megadrive, then mars matrix on the dc....

and now i'm a shmup junkie. only been seriously playing for about a year though. i'd definately say that it's unusual for anyone very young to 'get' shmups as it actually takes a lot of application in most to get anything out of them.

35, although I look like I'm in my mid twenties.
I've been posting here at Shmups.com for many years...at least since 99 or so. (can't remember exactly)

The truth's comin out now, I had that disease Robin Williams had in the movie Jack.

(movie poster clipped)
Hehe. I have the exact opposite problem. I am 28 years old and 99% of the people say I look much younger than that, and I'm short (5'6" or 168 cm). People mention anywhere from 19-22. Some even believe I still look like a high-schooler. See avatar.

The funniest conversation I've ever had regarding my age was in a classroom environment at my Navy school. A new instructor came in to start a new subject, and had us students introduce ourselves. When it was my turn, the following ensued:

Me: "Hi. I am Petty Officer Ambing. I am from San Diego, California, and I am the youngest 27-year-old you'll ever meet..."
Instructor: (interrupting, and extremely shocked) "YOU'RE 27??!! My GOD my son looks older than you!!"
Me: "How old is he, Petty Officer?"
Instructor: (still shocked) "NINE!!"
(the entire class laughs)
Instructor: "What month were you born?"
Me: "May."
Instructor: (after a brief pause) "I'm one month older than you, bro!"

This guy is only one month older than me, and yet is bald as a bowling ball and looks like Stone Cold Steve Austin. Amusing times, dude!

Same here. I'll be 35 in two weeks and most people think I'm a student at the University where I work. ;)

Yeah, we did this before on the old forums (we had a survey that time, and it was rather telling). I think the range freaked people out a bit (both the teenagers and those in their 40's). Me, I'm 33 (time to get nailed to a piece of wood I guess...)

I think the only thing that's really changed about me in the past decade is the fact that I have more bills to pay.

24, been around these forums for years, but only in the last few have I spent much time posting.

Fell out of love with shmups for a few years, then rekindled my interest last summer by picking up a few old carts, namely Life Force for NES and U.N. Squadron for SNES. Nostalgia can be quite powerful.

When I finally get around to buying a house, I plan on purchasing a few PCB's and cabinets for the garage, based on all the positive things I've read from members here.

Played my first shmup at the age of 14 and never looked back.
That was a Jeff Minter game BTW.

Weird, instead of 5'6'', I'm 6'5''. I got my head shaved a week ago (I couldn't wait 30 years to see my bald head), and people at work say I look older than I did before.

Weird, but you're almost the same age as me, and I could never pass up the likes of Defender,Gorf,Tempest, etc, etc.

For your age and the time you first played a "shmup", I would almost consider you a "late bloomer".

And you´d probably be half right. :)
Actually I just remembered that I had a serious affinity for the only Galaxian machine in the area, when I was around 11 or 12.
Used to cycle 4 miles almost every day during summer to play the thing.
Fond memories indeed.

I thought I was the youngest, but looks like Andi pretty much beat me to it. I'm 16 turning 17 soon in September (Sadly, at the first day of school too)
Been around for these forums for quite a long while, but didn't join until 2003. I was born with love for shmups. But unfortunately, my interest with BEMANI is catching up!
