Re: Guide to owning a Japanese 360
Hi,
I just recently purchased a J-360 Lot No. 0928x
I have a question hopefully someone can answer.
Is it possible to create an Xbox Live account using the 256MB internal flash memory or do I have to attach a HDD or memory unit to create an account?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Guide to owning a Japanese 360
You can save your profile onto the internal flash memory.
Re: Guide to owning a Japanese 360
Just a heads-up: after the next system update unauthorized storage devices (Datel and such) will no longer work with the console.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Re: Guide to owning a Japanese 360
Not really JP 360 related, but I guess good to know. MS is quite ridiculous with the banning of non-official data storage. Even Sony let you get away with that (Although unofficial memory cards for PS1/2 tended to be flakey and crap)
Re: Guide to owning a Japanese 360
In case there's any confusion : a Microsoft exec. clarified that the banning of "unauthorized storage devices" is only targeting memory cards, not hard drives. We'll see if they stay true to their word.

Oh god I pray this is true. hi guys, just a quick question. If you buy JP Live points from Play-Asia...do they mail you an actual card or do they just email the code to you?
thanks

Re: Guide to owning a Japanese 360
Yesterday, I got prompted to go online to start DS MBL. This has never happened before. I have all the latests 360 dashboard updates. Also, the replay data was grayed out for a while, but did work a while later. Dunno if this was related to me getting logged in and out of Live! but it sure is kinda worrying.

Re: Guide to owning a Japanese 360
I think I recall the replays being grayed out before when not signed into Live. I can't recall if I've tried to play MBL when not signed in, but I took pics of the screens I was greeted with when I tried today.
Note: It doesn't care what Live account I am on. I can play MBL or replays fine by being logged into my USA Live account.

Re: Guide to owning a Japanese 360
Thanks for confirming. I think that before (when I didn't have a dedicated Internet connection to my 360) I just used my offline profile and it worked ok. But as I was online and the connection dropped, perhaps I was logged out and not logged in at all (online/offline account) = no DLC. This is just some theoretical musings though.brentsg wrote:I think I recall the replays being grayed out before when not signed into Live. Re: Guide to owning a Japanese 360
RFA's now on Games on Demand, which is meaningless for pretty much everyone using my guide, but I'll add it just to keep this up to date.
Re: Guide to owning a Japanese 360
Regarding Games On Demand, for anyone with a JPN console, you might like to give the following try:
I haven't tried this myself yet as I only have 1 network socket on my PC (I'm currently waiting for a USB RJ45 adaptor to arrive so I can test this method myself). A word of warning though - do not perform the full download via this VPN as you'll likely get banned from the VPN service for using too much bandwidth. Apparently, the IP check only occures at the beginning and at the end of the download, so begin the download using the VPN, disconnect from the VPN and resume the download, then right near the end, reactivate the VPN. Post here if this works, failing that, I'll post my own findings when my adaptor arrives.First of all, you will need a computer with two network ports. Most computers these days have two, but if yours doesn't, network cards are super cheap these days.
Now connect one port to your internet source, be it router, cable modem, dsl, etc., and the other port to your Xbox 360.
Next, follow the instructions on the following page to get connected to a Japanese VPN: http://syberw.blogspot.com/2009/05/test ... rvice.html . If you happen to have a 64-bit version of windows installed (like me), download and install this client instead of the one listed on the page: http://www.packetix.net/en/special/file ... 32-x64.exe .
Once the VPN is up and running, go to the windows network adapter configuration page (google it if you don't know how to find it) and you should see three network adapters. One for the VPN, one for the internet, and one for the Xbox. The easiest way to find out which adapter the Xbox is, is to turn it off and see which port shows up as disconnected. Once you figure it out, hold control and click on the VPN connection, and while continuing to hold control click on the Xbox adaptor. Now right click on one of the two icons (doesn't matter which) and say bridge connection. Once it finishes, boot your 360, and make sure all the network configuration setting are set to automatic, and then connect to Xbox Live.
If all went smoothly, you should now be connected to Xbox Live through a Japanese IP address, meaning Microsoft has no way of knowing you are not in Japan. Theoretically, if all Microsoft does is check your IP, and not your console region, you should now be able to download games from the Japanese Games on Demand service. There is no gurentee this will work, but I think it's worth a shot. Just don't be too suprised if the VPN server bans you for using their free test service to download a 4.5GB game.
Re: Guide to owning a Japanese 360
My USB RJ45 adaptor finally arrived and I had a chance to test the method above. I couldn't get it to work, however, I had more success with the following method:
https://www.intl-alliance.com/store/ind ... page&id=20
This method involves using a laptop to access via your wireless network (360 > laptop > router). I had more success with this method - I was able to establish a connection to the local network and connection to the internet using the 360. However, I wasn't able to connect to Live because the servers port 3074 wasn't open. Because this particular VPN server is free, they only allow traffic over port 80. So, the next challenge is to find a Japanese VPN server which has this port open. I can't imagine there will be a free one (since VPNs in other countries which allow access over more than just port 80 aren't free).
In the meantime, I'm going to try and get someone in Japan to buy a GoD title using my Japanese account, then I'm going to try the redownload option back in my country to see if that method works.

Re: Guide to owning a Japanese 360
I have a question that's probably been answered somewhere in the thread, but I don't have time to read through the whole thing at the moment.
I have a PAL 360 and I'm going to sell it to get a J360 from Play-Asia, and my question is about the power brick. I assume the 360's in stock over at Play-Asia come with the Jasper chipset, but I have no idea which chipset is on my PAL 360. I've read that the power brick that came with the Falcon chipset will work on a Jasper, but like I said, I don't know if my PAL is Jasper or Falcon.
On the other hand, my PAL 360 is either a Falcon or a Jasper, and when the J360 I'm buying is a Jasper, it will work anyway, no? There's basically no realistic chance that my PAL 360 is a Jasper and that the J360 I'm buying is a Falcon, which is like the only of three possible combinations that doesn't work.
Am I getting this right?
Jasper brick on Jasper chipset = Success
Falcon brick on Jasper chipset = Success
Jasper brick on Falcon chipset = Failure
..?

Re: Guide to owning a Japanese 360
Yep, that's correct. Basically, all the old PSUs will work with the new Jasper consoles. You can get the PSUs off ebay or amazon quite cheaply.
Re: Guide to owning a Japanese 360
I'm strongly considering getting a J360, but I do have a couple questions if anyone would be so kind as to answer them. =)
-All NTSC games will work on a J360, right? I currently have a US 360, but I'd like to sell it to offset the cost of the Japanese one... just want to make sure I can play all my games.
-I know it's possible to use the HDD from my US 360 on the J360... but what about XBLA titles/Indie games I've already purchased, TV shows I've downloaded, and DLC for retail games. Will all of those things still work? Is there a way I can get everything transferred for offline play so that I don't need to be online to enjoy the things I paid for?
Thanks, and I'm sorry if these have been addressed earlier in the thread and I missed them (feel free to berate me mercilessly). =/

All games differ and some won't work on a JP 360. Try reading the first post.

Region status lists can be found here:

For any game that is region locked, simply replace it with the equivalent Asian release (most Asian releases are in English and work fine on a JPN console).

Re: Guide to owning a Japanese 360
Hey guys
I'm having major problems connecting my JP 360 online.
After I booted up the 360 I accepted a system update. Right after that it rebooted and said I had problems connecting.
"There's a problem with your connection. Select More info for a description of the problem and how you can fix it."
Thats all I can't get past anything else.
My 360 is not modded and I'm using a wireless adapter.
Please some one help
Edit: I fixed the problem, there was something wrong with my USB Port on the back, I have no idea why but it wasn't working properly. I plugged the USB wireless adapter in the front and its working now.

Re: Guide to owning a Japanese 360
I may have found a way to buy content from the japanase marketplace with a non-jp gamertag:
Some days ago I was logged into my main account (eu) as player 1. Then I plugged in a second controller and logged in with my jp gamertag as player 2. The marketplace switched from eu to jp. When I signed out the second controller later I noticed that I was still on the jp marketplace with my eu gamertag. I tried selecting an arcade game and clicked on buy and it asked me to confirm. But I cancelled as I'm not interested at the moment to buy anything from the jp marketplace.
Maybe if I selected confirm it would have given me an error message.
Maybe someone wants to try this out and report if it is possible or not.

Interesting. Is your console a NTSC-J one, or PAL-EU?antares wrote:I may have found a way to buy content from the japanase marketplace with a non-jp gamertag:

Try downloading a video or demo, I'm sure it will give you an error saying that it can't access the content (because it's not uploaded to non-JP marketplaces). Oh, and make sure you download something that's only available on the JP marketplace, of course.antares wrote:I may have found a way to buy content from the japanase marketplace with a non-jp gamertag:

Re: Guide to owning a Japanese 360
Im seriously thinking about buying a j360 depending on whether espgaluda 2 is region free or not.
Im a bit confused about how this all works.
I can transfer my US gamertag to a j360? Does that mean I can go on xbox live without having to create a japanese gamertag?
Can I play japanese games and get acheivements on my US gamertag?
If i put my US360 HD into my j360 can I still play the games I dled off the american market on the j360?
In order to download extra content I need to buy asian point cards and use a japanese gamertag? Will that extra content show up on my US gamertag when I log in? That way I can play with the upgraded version while using my US gamertag to play it online.

Re: Guide to owning a Japanese 360
The answer is "yes" to all of your questions, except for one : Asian point cards will not work on a Japanese account. You have to buy Japanese point cards.Burningvigor wrote:I can transfer my US gamertag to a j360? Does that mean I can go on xbox live without having to create a japanese gamertag?

As for the questions you asked in the thread you made :
Questions 2, 3, and 4 are a definite "yes".Burningvigor wrote:1. If the japanese 360 breaks down am I able to get it repaired in America.
2. Can I get my american gamertag into the japanese 360 one?
3. Can I still voicechat with my friends who own the US 360?
4. Is it possible to change the language to english in the japanese 360 so I can navigate the options easier?
Question 1 is a "yes", from my personal experience, but it is not something that's guaranteed for everyone. If the JP360 breaks down, I would not recommend calling the support hotline, since they won't know how to handle your situation (from my experience). What I did when my JP360 got the RROD, was register my JP360 on the support website (once you do this, it will tell you if your JP360 is covered by the warranty, and to what extent), filled out a repair order on the support website, and I explicitly stated in the comments section that the 360 was Japanese and that I wanted either the same console or another JP360 in return. I also taped 2 notes on the console itself stating that also before I sent it to them.
