Mobile phone?

Post by jackprw1 »

So, I've been thinking about upgrading from my rather antique piece of plastic. I'd prefer my new investment to be a Sony Ericsson because that's what I'm used to and feel comfortable with. So, any of you gurus have any thoughts or ideas? I am completely lost in the mobile phone jungle. Which one is ace and which one isn't?

I want to be able to:

>Make phone calls
>Send text messages
>Take photos (nothing too fancy)
>And have my own music on it (for alarm and call signals, not for listening pleasure)

I have Motorola L6. It serves me right for 3 years already, and I am not planning to change it (at least now)

Pros:
- Outdated -> cheap
- Small and slim
- Does everything you've listed
- Highly customizable theme/ringtones
- EDGE, GPRS, MMS and all that stuff

Contras:
- 4 MB of internal memory, so stick to MIDIs
- Bad protection against accidental keypressings
- Fragile battery (in terms of leakage)
- Picture quality sucks ass - here are the examples: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.ph ... 48#p539548
In an alternate universal, Soldier Blade II has already been crafted by Hudson Soft and Compile with proper tate this time around (c) PC Engine Fan X!
Sega tried and failed. Nintendo didn't even try. (c) Specineff

I used to enjoy Sony Ericsson phones too (and still using their Casino Royale one for now), but honestly if I were starting out buying a new phone today it would now have to be an iPhone. If on stricter budget, an older model slow iPhone would do... its access to the App Store's 100,000s of inexpensive and practical programs, is pretty much irreplaceable in any other phone. The biggest factor preventing some people from acknowledging that, is the real difficulty of finding the great apps in the sea of thousands of bad ones - but they are there, with exciting new stuff coming out each week for the phone. I think a lot of Sony Ericsson users will be migrating to Apple...

Bought an iPhone...never looked back. Google's phone looks promising, but that'll be a while. You can also unlock iPhone's quite easily which comes in handy if you travel a lot.

Stay the hell away from Sony-Ericsson phones.
Almost all of them have some stupid hardware or software fault.
In the earlier models you could trash the "control stick" very easily, most of the newer plain phones have bugs in their software, etc etc.
For example my S-E K610i (use this as a replacement for my broken iPhone) randomly switches off, activates the menu button by itself or calls people without me knowing it.
Whenever i tell that to someone the usual answer is "Yeah i had a Sony-Ericsson too, it was like that as well".
