Although they have no recognisable benefit to most sports, it is acknowledged that they are beneficial to sports such as archery and shooting.

by the looks of it bb are only any good if u suffer from nerviouness so i might imagine tournament gamers possibly taking em

even though its morally wrong i can understand (not condone) a gamer taking drugs when theres cash at stake
but some1 who is playing for their own enjoyment to go as far as take drugs is abit sad imo since only person they are cheating against is their selves

If you're interested in this "the zone" thing, it is synonymous to the flow-state which is a mental state recognized in psychology http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flow_(psychology)
Seems its easier to attain in games as they often have clear rulesets. As concentration and arousal are important parts of reaching flow, would make sense that strong sedatives would make reaching flow-state harder.

Personally I quite often reach flow state in shmups, say in futari especially if I get a pretty high score and if I have lost all my bombs or lives and stuff (dont need to worry about bombing, heh) and when there are plenty of bullets to dodge. I also get in it a lot in fighting games, mostly VOOT but probably because I've played that the most. I also used to get into flow-state often when I made a lot of vector graphics, that was pretty fun.

I 1cc'd my first shmup (APB) while being stoned and half drunk. I'm still shocked that I did it.

The problem is to think this will be the single chance for get that high score or 1cc. Indeed you LEVEL UP in game and will lose the nervous after figure you can reach the same conditions in each single run subsequent. But your problems don't stop here, this is one circle and each LEVEL UP will lose one new nervous for you fight.

My thoughts exactly. A few years ago, my hands would literally tremble on stage 15 of R-Type. :lol: Today, I don't think the game is very difficult at all.

Reading that wiki on flow / in the zone was quite intresting, The main part i found intresting was all of the attributes to achieving flow were hallmarks of shmups, which are imo more so then other games due to the basic machanics of shmups been so simple, just shooting and dodging. It kinda explains why shmups are so fun to play
