My Dreamcast has lots of visual noise present when hooked up to my HD monitor. I just assumed it was the VGA box since there was obvious static from the headphone jacks. Well, I purchased a new VGA adapter, and while the audio is perfect the same visual problem is present. I tried different cables, both boxes, unplugged all the other inputs, nothing. All the components work noise free on my housemates TV. Does anyone have any tips? Is my monitor (Westinghouse 37 lvm-37w3se) f'ed?
I have an XRGB-3 on the way and was looking forward to scanlines.
Do you have a box or cable? The boxes are notorious for the audio problem. I just settled for a cable. My TV has a 3.5 input jack for PC type sound.
Plug a PC laptop in the TV and see if the same problem exists. From what I can see of that screenshot the fault lies with the box/cable.. But I might be wrong. Trial and error my friend.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
I have a DC along with VGA hooked up from time to time and can't remember any interferences like those shown in the picture. If I find the time, I'll hook it up tomorrow and give it a try.
btw: you cannot get scanlines from a VGA signal in conjunction with a XRGB-3, but you know that of course (don't you?).
neorichieb1971, all the other inputs (component, DVI, HDMI) work fine. I don't have any other VGA sources, as I only have a mini-DVI adapter for my Macbook. There's no cable box or TV signal. I've tried another cable; it looks the same.
Fudoh, I'm not talking about the DC. I'm almost certain the problem's with the monitor, the Dreamcast's noise free on another set using the same components. No way am I going to use the VGA port for anything. Bye, bye, B1 mode.
Ok, understood. Still I wouldn't jump to conclusions. It's easily possible that your TV dislikes the DC VGA signal, but has no problems with the XRGB signal whatsoever. The XRGB's VGA signal is quite good, so I really wouldn't worry too early.
