Wii Fighting Stick - can it be modded w/ Sanwa or Seimitsu?

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

About a year or so ago, I was browsing around at my local Gamestop and saw one of them rare USA region Hori Wii Fighting Sticks placed on the shelf. It was the only one available and purchased it right away thinking that it would be good for both fighting and shmup-type of games on the Wii platform.

Playing either Wii ports of Castle of Shikigami 3 or even Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus with the regular Wii Remote controller just ain't proper and calls for a dedicated arcade stick setup bar none.

My question is this:

Are there other modified Wii Fighting Sticks with Sanwa and/or Seimitsu arcade-spec parts? And what would be needed to make the aftermarket parts fit straight in or will some drilling and trimming with a Dremel rotary tool be necessary? I've noticed that if the Fighting Stick is connected to the Wii Remote controller and not used for five minutes or so, it will automatically shut down to conserve on battery power.

Thank you in advance for the informative answers...

Dremeling and soldering/de-soldering. Nothing too complicated, however.

That was the first tutorial that appeared for this stick and it's a little out-dated now. Search the Shoryuken forums and they have a thread with TONS of info on modding this stick. The thing I don't like about the tutorial posted is that they mount the joystick at an improper height.
