How does Saturn Assault Suit Leynos 2 control compared to...

Post by dave4shmups »

Cybernator on the SNES? I didn't have a problem with the controls on that game-or the difficulty level-so I'm wondering how similar the controls on ASL 2 are?

I don't remember the SFC one but the controls on the PS2 are crap. This game stayed in my possession a total of 3 days.

EDIT: Sorry... you're talking about the Saturn game, right? I'm referring to the clunky PS2 Valken.

Yeah, I was talking about the Saturn version, just changed the thread's title to reflect that.

OT, I've seen the Darius Gaiden Extra videos on www.eckychap.co.uk-does the Saturn version feature this Extra?

The controls in the Saturn version are totally fine iirc. I haven't played it in years, but I had no trouble doing what I wanted as far as I can recall. The PS2 version was pretty poor - they made the game WAY too hard, and the controls felt a little mushy too. The absurd difficulty is what really turned me away...

The Saturn game is hard, but nowhere near as "cheap."

Moving to off-topic...

(I dunno what Darius Gaiden Extra is, but it's not on the Saturn version.)

They controlled pretty much the same from what I remember, dave, except there is a bigger variety of weapons in Leynos 2.

The game's so damned difficult, though, and just frustrating...limited ammo, WHY?

Its not that hard once you get used to... and limited ammo only applies in the first level really... after that you should be fine. :)

LEYNOS 2 DOESNT HAVE THE THE BEST CONTROL MECHANISM IN THE WORLD, BUT YOU CAN GET USED TO IT, SOMEWHAT. DEFINETLY WORSE THAN CYBERNATOR. But still a good game nevertheless. never finished it though!

leynos 2 is fucking amazing, controls somewhat similar to RSG in that aspect that each button is a different weapon/use, very quick and easy to use, its like a speeded up version of valken (the snes one not the crap PS2 port)

graphics are amazing in this game, it zooms and scrolls like a madman all without slowdown!

everyones always complaining about difficulty but i never found it that difficult.. sure it might take a couple of tries on your first way thru but after 2-3clears youll breeze thru it like nothing.. which is really the only drawback.. the game is waaaaaay to short :( an extra 10 levels wouldnt have hurt at all!

heres hoping for leynos 3 on the PS3 ;)

btw, if you like these games make sure tocheck out the unnoficial sequel "metal warriors" on the snes..

As far as control goes, in Assault Suits Leynos 2 I miss having the shield assigned to the right trigger button like it was in Assault Suits Valken (Cybernator). It's so much easier to use the shield in the nick of time when it's a trigger button, instead of having to reach over to the C button or whatever. Unfortunately, you aren't able to reassign the shield button to the trigger. But in all, it's a really fun game, but it can be short when you get good at it.
