World Reborn to get a DS sequel
World Reborn to get a DS sequel
It hasn't been released in the GBA version yet, but that hasn't stopped NeoPong from announcing a sequel to World Reborn for the DS. Article and some screens here (the screens look suspiciously like the standard overrendered Euroshmup graphics though...)

Most interesting is the fact that they indicate that it will have online play...

But other than that the style looks appealing to me. Nice & colorful.
The game looks sedate however, but maybe it's just the first 2 levels. If the whole game's like that then I would be a bit dissapointed, since I hate shmups where enemies hardly shoots at you, and you don't have much of a weapon to shoot back either.
We'll see how this turn out.

why professor, what is wrong with RPG shmups? Is experimentation not the nature of research? Or are you one of those conservative profsprofessor ganson wrote:Why haven't I heard of World Reborn? Perhaps because it is a bit too sedate for most of us here. Two RPG shmups in one year? WTF is going on here?

I was going to say: "WTF is going on here? This is very cool." I left out the last part because then I thought: "Why think this is cool? It's not like I've ever played an RPG shmup. Maybe these will suck and my money will be wasted."TGK wrote:why professor, what is wrong with RPG shmups? Is experimentation not the nature of research? I was at some random arcade...
I saw something, and said "WTF, Gradius?! This is very cool." I left out the last part because then I thought: "Why think this is cool? It's not like I've ever played a shmup. Actually what is a shmup?! Maybe these will suck and my money will be wasted."
But I stuck the coin in nonetheless. My life was never the same again.[/quote]

GBA trailer below. They've really pushed the GBA graphic hardware, the DS version should own:

I just wish that the GBA and the DS would get more attention from Japanese developers, but I suppose they're all too busy porting shmups to cell phones.

Ugh, foreground elements obscuring the playfield...that alone is enough to turn me off the game (not like it'd matter anyways, since I don't own any portable systems, heh). The hit detection looks a bit finicky as well...as the one blue-haired fellow in the intro said, "Yeah, what were those crazy guys at Neo Pong Software thinking?"

Nicely put, Xexyz. I'm a sucker for Nintendo handhelds, but boredom I can do without and I'm feeling bored by this even before it enters my hands. Bad sign.Xexyz wrote:Visually they look appealing, but the gameplay just looks boring. Why can't non-Japanese, non-Korean developers make action crazy shmups? They don't have to be manic, just action packed! The GBA one sort of gave me a Thunder Force vibe, but still very tranquil.
