The family gag gift exchange at the Christmas Eve get-together just yielded a Moai-shaped ice cube tray. More on that once I've had a chance to try it out...

BTW, I've bought PSP and PS2 in one of the biggest and most fucked up video game stores in my city. They manage to sell both import hardware, bootleg hardware, bootleg disks and non-bootleges twice the price of the original prices (for example, Killzone 2). For example, with PS2 they gave me a bootleg pack-in of Cold Fear and Haunting Ground. Yeah. A bootleg pack-in. The only reason is I still buy stuff there is because the employees there are SO FUCKING HOT!

EDIT: ...What the hell was I smoking to let so many grammar errors slip?

Bought from E2046 - less than impressed with the defects (all of which I've put right, one of which was a real bitch). How they respond to my complaint will affect how I review the product on their site... The paint job is really nice, the flash photography has bleached out the tones a bit and doesn't do it justice.

We just got a PSPgo as a Christmas bonus from our very generous boss. While I'd never pay for a piece of kit that makes 120 of my UMDs redundant, it's a lovely little piece of kit, and has got me right back into Super Stardust.

Today I also spent a shit load on Breakcore records, including my first ever Straight-Edge Rastfarian Ragga/Italian Folk crossover LP by DJ Balli. Probably my last too! I doubt I'll find another one of those anytime soon.

Sorry - no time for pics!

ya...i have the massive add-ons for koreplayer....most of it is a bit too rave-y for the stuff im producing and it doesnt offer quite as in depth sound morphing options.....that and the fact that other than absynth most of the NI stuff doesnt have the midi options i need to interface with my MPC and i end up having to sample stuff which is too time consuming when im on the fly making beats...absynth lets me run multiple instances set to different midi channels so its easy to seqeuence multiple tracks through the MPC live...i record my track into the MPC, and then the MPC controls the software....

i do mostly zombie-core/chiptunes/hiphop.....kinda rolled into one package....i can post up a few tracks if people want to hear some of my stuff

Yea, I find that the presets that they make for their programs shoehorn you too much into making certain genres of music. Massive's presets are too rave-y and Absynth has too many slowly evolving pad sounds that sound like Enya. To me, the fun mostly comes from programming your own sounds from scratch. As far as MIDI goes, I don't have an MPC but I have the Komplete 5 bundle so I can tell you that the MIDI routing stuff is possible to do but a bit annoying to learn because it's done differently in every program. I write stuff using an Oxygen 8 keyboard and Logic Pro though, so ymmv if you're mostly doing stuff live.

ya....i have an MPC1000 which i use as the brain(controls and syncs with absynth) and i have an m-audio axiom 25 midi keyboard....

i tend to do my drum beats on the MPC, and then i do my melody and bass tracks with the axiom using absynth through the MPC....other than absynth i dont use software as its easier to do with the MPC....if i am doing sampled based tracks its all MPC

as for the preset sounds in absynth, i will agree some are kinda slow and droning, but the thing is you can adjust the BPM on all the sounds, and i tend to work between 75-100bpm, so it works out.....anythng faster than that and most of the stuff i produce loses its flow

i like epic drone-y sounds some time because especially when i am doing zombie stuff, its usually kinda layered soundscapes with hiphop-ish beats, so having the odd slow expanding sounds are useful

i will upload some tracks today for you guys....let me know what you think....only a few people have heard a lot of this stuff

ok....here ya go...bear in mind i have only started making beats from scratch like 2 months ago and i got the synth less than a month ago.....im just using what i know about song composition and structure....most of my musical experience is playing with hardcore bands...all my production is done through the MPC....when i record a finished track it is a 4bar loop that i use the track mute function on the MPC to mix it live into some kind of basic song structure while recording

if you dont like slow draggy/grimey dark hip hop you probably wont like this

all .wav so sorry about the larger file size

original composition tracks(no samples):

16bit sunset: kinda epic chip tune style hiphop beat.....
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PIETG6ND

eastbound train: very simple scaled back hiphop beat....kinda dark and bassline focused...some jungle influence on the bassline
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TP0CZ0H0

kickstep2: kinda dancy beat i did for my buddy...bit of a departure style wise for me....almost a cross between jungle and oldschool punk styled beat....worked out kinda nice...the '2' denotes its the second version....i wasnt happy with the mix on the first attempt....kept missing the changes
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5W1IR9U8

look out behind you: one of the first beats i did....going for a classic horror score feel mixed with oldschool hiphop....not as clean/tight as newer beats as i hadnt discovered the wonders of quantization with the MPC and i had just gotten the keyboard....quantization is a little tricky with hiphop beats until you figure out how to use it properly
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YNIHZ4HZ

urban nights: going for a very dark horror feel....the lead melody is kinda reminiscient to the nightmare on elm street progression....worked out nicely
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VA1WZSX4

Sample based tracks:

both of these tracks were made using samples from zombi's 'spirit animal' track....havent done too many sample based tracks yet as im having more fun doing the original composition stuff right now

deadalive: very dark, very zombie, very heavy beat....this is one of my favs mainly due to its simplicity....took like 30seconds to make this track  but its very effective....actually came up with this by accident when i was showing my friend how the MPC worked
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TTF236BS

zombiewaltz: the first track i made with the 'spirit anmal' samples....very different feel than deadalive......i like the bassline...
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NQSF3IRB

thats about it for now...ive got a few more, but they arent up to snuff for my standards

lmk what you guys think and if you have any advice or comments on specifics

please dont pass this stuff around too much as some of it is with MC's right now so might be used for actual album tracks so i dont want them getting jacked before we get a chance to use them

Cool stuff. I haven't listened to all of it yet, but I do like the dark grimey feel you're going for. It's hard to give feedback without knowing what you're going for since the vocals that aren't in there yet, but I will give you a PM once I get around to listening to all of it. You got any beats with vocals on them? Thanks for sharing your stuff so far.
