Over the last nine months I've gotten pretty good at troubleshooting my dynamo cab but this one has me stumped. Any assistance would be appreciated here. Last week I installed a CPS2 'A' board, kick harness and a Marvel vs Capcom 'B' board. Everything worked fine up until today.
I turned on the cab and noticed a whirling sound that would come and go. About two rounds in the game resets. Unplugged everything and checked all the contact points. Fired it back up and it did the same exact thing, whirl noise followed shortly by another reset. Now when I turn it on nothing happens. The "A" board fan spins like it should but there's nothing on the monitor.
Not sure if the problem lies with something in the CPS2 setup or the monitor or what. unfortunately I don't even have another board to test with. Kind of vague but anyone have any idea what might be going on?
Most likely scenario is the PCB or power supply has gone bang. I'm assuming it doesn't even play blind?
Measure voltage between the 5v and GND pins on your JAMMA connector while the game is switched on. If that shows anything around 5v the PSU is probably fine and the game board is probably faulty. The fan on CPS2 boards is a 12v one so it would be spinning even if the 5v feed is fried.
Thank you for the suggestions, I checked the voltage and everything seems fine. The game works again but I've found it's the CPS A board that's making the noise. Tried opening the case to check the fan but I can't get that large pin with a C on it to budge. Anyway thanks again.
Strange it should stop working for a bit though - maybe the cart just needed reseating. To get that pin out you have two options. One isn't very friendly and may well break the case, but usually works - just pull the halves apart until it snaps.
The correct way is to drill the head off one end.
Or just get a new A board. Don't be tempted to spray WD40 at the fan, it'll just get everywhere.
