This horrible redesign has been picked up by a pretty big Japanese blog:

One of the comments: "a rape of the original"

Hahaha this looks like it was drawn by sb who just finished reading one of those "how to draw manga" books and wanted to try his hand with existing characters... what a fucking disgrace.

Tavia was like the only Psikyo chick without big hooters back in the day.

Her hair looks like what her broom use to look like, and her broom is a mop now. I bet they would have somehow managed to botch morrigans artwork too if she was in that jazz

Yeah, a completely level-headed and appropriate response there.

Can anyone elaborate on why the PSP rev of Strikers Plus isn't good? If the port is technically sound i was planning on picking it up since I used to actually enjoy the Neo Geo version in the arcade. Is it just not fun to play on the PSP or is it a broken port?

If I remember correctly you start with only two ships, and possibly slightly harder difficulty. No changing that.
Other than that, it's just the controls. It's no seimitsu stick

omg somebody is denigrating the seriousness of rape on the internet

I think what's most hilarious is that at least two people are forgetting that rape is a part of the game. Adding hooters only increases the rape factor

I just don't think it's worth getting that upset over. So the character select screens have some crappy artwork. Big deal.

if the character select screens have crappy artwork, and the fact its called gunbird 2 remix are any signs, the whole game is going to look crappy.

Don't consider me a troll, guys, but I believe that new artwork is AWESOME compared to Castlevania Judgment
Though this doesn't contradict the 'moar shitty redesign' trend... :x

Considering GB2 is already pretty fruity to start with, Judgement's art style would've probably been less revolting. This just looks anemic / malformed / creepy.

I just did pick up the game and start playing it shortly before news of this got out. and here this comes along, and most all fans (including myself) are pretty sure this is universally awful.

I don't have anything else to add. it's pretty clear that everyone else has said what i could.

Game should be titled Gunbird: From Bad to Worse.

Maybe, but it might not be the end of the world as we know it though. I'm not particularly a fan of the artwork in Street Fighter II HD Remix, but the game play is fine and that's the main thing really.

If it's playing in forced widescreen, the gameplay is going to be atrocious.

I didn't think Gunbird 2 was bad... I just liked it more when it was called Strikers 1945 II. Actually, my favorite version of Strikers 1945 II would be Dragon Blaze.

This interview makes it sound like we might at least be spared the new art...
Oh man, the art got a lot of bad response, but I assure you the original team is still helping out and the art is not going to be changed. Don’t worry everyone, those were just conceptual art and we learned a lot from the responses.
Now to see what happens to the rest of the game...

Glad also to see the following bit:

"We love the Psikyo games and will continue to work on their franchises. Just to give you guys a heads up, we are doing something else but it is something completely new for people. Who says we need consoles to play these games…"

Very good news all around.

(Especially if we get more DJ MAX!)

You talk ass psikyo games may have great similarities at first glance but really do differ a fair bit in bullet patterns , play tactics and so on .
