Gunbird 2 getting the "Let's ruin a classic" treatment

Post by 8 1/2 »

New artwork is looking freaking hideous so far. Can't wait to see some in-game screens. I'm stoked to play the game on the go, and it'll slide in nicely next to the copy of "Mobile Light Force" I recently downloaded on my GO, but here's hoping an "original" 2D mode is included.

What a strange pick for something to remake, since it generally isn't considered a classic. Nice beehive, Marion.

Wow. I'm not a fan of GB2's art to begin with, but this makes me almost remorseful for that. They actually made Hei-Cob an uglier design than he already was. Marion looks like a Shikigami fanart reject. And god damn, Aine's endings are going to be a lot harder to laugh off with that creepy mug.

Holy Fuck!

Why are White People so entirely incapable of drawing game characters that don't look like Saturday morning trash? This is the race that, in its glorious past, gave us Lysippos, Michaelangelo, and Jackson Pollock, but now all we can do is rip off Japanese stuff and turn it into pure, unfiltered shit. (Case in point: AMERICAN HENTAI)

My blood shames me...

Wait a second, I get it. Marion's face in particular. Reminds me of early 20th century drawings, like the kind you would find in illustrated novels.

I don't know how that kind of style is going to mesh with Gunbird's wacky humor.

wow... that was way more crappy then I expected......... the header of this thread was not just being over zealous.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

ugh, horrible.

my reaction was the same when I saw Turtles In Time "Re-Shelled."

Both that game, and this one, went from "Instant Buy" to "No thanks" when I saw the art.

The only good possible explanation I can think of for this would be that they didn't have access to the original art, and wanted to release the game with high-def graphi... oh, wait, PSP, never mind...

Hmmm, mixed feelings here. Obviously since it's billed as a "remix" you have to expect some changes. I will agree that the art style does NOT suit the game at all, but this may just be concept & "cut scene" art, and they may keep the in-game artwork the same (which would be nice). Hopefully this will have a physical release so if it doesn't completely suck I can get it to go.

I liked Gunbird 2's original artwork.

This just makes me sick. If I had a PSP, I wouldn't buy this.

And I love this game, too.

What happened to Marion? She has man-legs. Also, she doesn't seem to have a neck.
Looks like some experiment went horribly wrong.

The art is bad, but even if it was the original, why would you want to play ANY shmup in yoko on a PSP's screen?

Damn that's ugly. I don't normally give a shit what a game looks like but those character designs are terrible. Looks like they have a genetic disorder.

If the gameplay is largely intact, however, I will buy it. As long as you can hold the PSP in a vert position as I struggle with some of the tight and fast patterns in this game even on a big screen. Portable Psikyo ftw.

The article also mentions Strikers 1945 Plus and DJ Max, both of which I would happily buy on European release.

Another PM Studios port?

I find it odd that they've handled the S1945+ port and this. Don't they publish the DJMAX series?

Looks ok. I like Gunbird 2. I am looking forward to more Shmups coming out on PSP. Well done PM studios. I hope these games are cheap and very small in file size. I hope they have online leaderboards.

That site doesn't allow direct linking to images; please post a link to the article so we can all complain about it. =)

PM Studios only localized the existing port of Strikers 1945 Plus, right? I wonder if this is a ground-up development or simply another localization?

EDIT: Never mind, I got it:
http://www.siliconera.com/2009/12/17/gu ... ng-on-psp/
It's hard to tell from these really small, crappy screenshots, but my guess is that it's stretched to fill the screen and that the graphics are currently unaltered. The article promises hybrid 2D/3D graphics, and the stretch feature is usually included as an option...I don't think they'd be so stupid as to make it mandatory.

Anyone who is thinking of buying this, please don't. This is by the same guys who did that TERRIBLE Strikers 1945 Plus port for the PSP. If it comes out in Europe, just save your damn money. Please! Strikers 1945 Plus didn't let you change any options that mattered, defaulted you to 2 lives, no music for boss battles, etc.

Sorry for that outburst guys, but seeing this topic just made me have a flashback of how I felt when I impulse bought that shoddy port.
