Just wanted to say hello to my fellow shooter fans.

Dont know why I never joined this place, but I guess now is better than never.

I am an active member over at Neo-geo.com, my handle there is BREACH 444.

Some of you may know me from there?

Bob Barker's pretty funny. I'd still lose the sig though. Y'know how touchy people can get in forums.

Hey man whats up? Good to see another NG.com mbr here.

Thanks for the welcome so far fellas.

Look, I mean no harm to anyone with my sig. Seriously!

But uumm yea...its gonna stay. And why you may ask. Because to each their own.

Everyone has the right to put in their sig what they want, so long as it is not nudity. And a reasonable size. which mine is. I have had a look around here before creating my account and I have seen several sigs that are of the same size if not slightly larger.

Again, no harm meant to anyone, and for those of you that know me from NG.com. I am a level headed easy person to get along with. Which is exactly what I intend to do is get along with everyone, meet and make new friends, and enjoy a common hobby.

hello again....

Welcome GT40PWR, I'm new here too, just got on to the forum last night.

The sig does rock. But you might want to put it away if only to avoid accidentally "harming" some guy who browse the forum at work (me).

Nope, I'm afraid they don't. You did read the rules when you signed up, right? Mentioning this publically because we've had to delete a few so far, so a few people aren't aware. This forum is -never- going to turn into a image heavy sig-mess like (for example) the NG forums.

(sig deleted.)

Aside from that, glad to have you aboard.

Good to have you with us GT40PWR

As for the sig, I kinda like it how there ain't any crazy ass images all over the place here, so I can understand the mods shutting it down

Anyway, hope you have fun here (btw, those chicks were hot :D )

Thanks pal, I will be sure to send you the names of every single person that has a picture in his thread. I will EXPECT that everyone of them have their sig DELETED. Fair is fair right?

Hope you have your PM box empty...

Thank you Bloodflowers, and I agree, NG.com is a visual atrocity. I mean damn people, I must have missed their rules where it states you have to a ginormous sig with softcore p0rn in, yeesh.

Images /are/ allowed but there is a size restriction, as listed in the rules, which everyone should read when they sign up.. The ones you listed over the limit have been removed. Fair is fair.

Your welcome Nemo, I guess some people have light hearts?

Deleting a sig because of size or its rules that nobody have one fine, delete it because you dont agree with it...wrong.

Heck this goes all they way to the point of.....you dont like the guys bumper sticker on his car, so you expect him to remove it?

Freedom of choice is what I fight for , for all people too. You dont like whats on TV or radio, change the channel. you dont like what I am wearing or displaying, find something else to look at.

Rant over, nuff said.

Derailing the topic even more, but there's a difference between a bumper sticker and a forum sig.

A bumper sticker is something seen in a public place, usually - but a forum is a private place. With free speech, you can print off leaflets claiming the moon is made of gold, go out onto the streets and people can take them or not, that's their choice. When you come to a private forum, you're making the choice to follow the rules of the place, just like if you attend a smart dress only club.

I understand you too well, GT40PWR, why deleting your sig makes you angry. Things like this make me upset too.

But, well, it's best to just accept the forum rules (or even if it would be just the mood of the mods). Afterall it's just a sig, they didn't tell you to change your opinion or closed your topic or something.

Well then, welcome to the forums. :)

GT40PWR: Dude, if you want a good idea of the mentality of this board, have a look at this thread...

Shmups.com is strictly for crybabies and little girls. You might not fit in very well here.

I'm kidding - please don't edit me.

Though I am very much against any censorship at all I think one needs to respect the rules of the places one chooses to come. especially if just entering a new place you have to try and go by it's rules.

It's like opening a nudiebar in the captol of Iran. It can be acceptable in Europe or the States or whereever but it defenitely won't be allowed there.
It's the rules of the place you come to..
You can either fight it, or you can accept local rules and laws. If you do not accept those rules than stay away or try to change them fro the inside.

I for one am pro free speech but I loathe having to watch large sig images when I just want to read an opinion. Words should never be moderated but I think the modding of annoying (my opinion I know) images is not against the principle of free speech.

But the rules of the game should indeed be the same for EVERYONE.
I guess some others will get their sig deleted too in a short while.

@ GT40PWR: please don't be offended by this as it is not my meaning to do so. Welcome on the forum and hope you'll have a good time here. :)

Why do you say "words should never be moderated"? Even hardcore proponents of free speech will allow that you can reasonably be punished for shouting "Fire!" in a crowded theater when there is no fire. And a restaraunt owner can reasonably require that people not make loud, vulgar remarks. After all, as a patron you are a guest. If you violate house rules, you may reaonably be asked to leave. If you don't leave, you are violating property rights. Since this site is privately owned, the same sort of situation obtains here.
You might say: "Well, yes, the admins and mods have a RIGHT (in virtue of property ownership) to moderate our words. But still they SHOULDN'T do so." Perhaps you might think that this turns the site into a PG-13 experience, and perhaps you think that is bad. Well, as in matters of etiquette generally, we are perhaps dealing with a matter of taste. But we should keep in mind that racist, sexist, homophobic, and vulgar talk is genuinely unnecessary for talking about shmups. Since this kind of talk offends most people, why not make the experience enjoyable for the majority? On utilitarian grounds, there is a case for keeping such talk to a minimum.

I guess I should have said "opinions" instead of "words" as that is actually more what I meant. I have no problem with vulgar words as long as the intention of using them isn't solely to offend someone else.

For example I don't mind someone saying: "cunt". I do DO mind someone calling someone a "cunt" as it is unneccessary offending.

You can say: "I don't like X",
but to say "X is a retarded d*ck" goes to far imo.

I see. I agree that opinions on the topic of shmups, properly worded, should not be edited. Opinions on unrelated topics are fair game IMO.

I have no problem with ANY content on this site. I don't want to see anything edited or changed. What I do want though is to be able to read through a page without seeing the same giant sig pictures over and over. It's just annoying. I used to be on dial-up and it would take me a full minute to load up some neo-geo.com forum pages. That's just a bit much. I wouldn't have any problem with something the same height as an avatar, but big goofy shit is just tacky and eats up space.

Agreed about the loading of large sigs (which mine wasnt) But NG.com solved that issues quickly while maintianing a freedom to display what youd like(provided it was not nudity/hardcore Porn) They simply set their forum system to only display your sig once in a thread, no matter how many times you posted a reply. IF you started a thread, the same applied, it was only displayed the first time you posted. And there is a size limit too.
That works for everyone, and worked fine on my dialup and works like a blazing dream on my 5meg Cable connection.
I never once tried to go against the rules here, I simply observed other posters sigs which contained various things from screen shots of games to logos of their favorite company. I observed their size, and accordingly resized mine to fit with the rest. Having a sig is the whole fun of being an individual on the internet (in my humble opinion).
I firmly believe mine was tossed because somone was offended not because of size. But thats fine, but the rule has to apply to all so if you have a sig you can say good bye to it. Rules apply to all not just one person.

In any case, thanks for the welcome from all, its good to hang out with some fellow shooter fans minus the cool sig option ;-)
