Can I add GTA to the list? The missions on San Andreas were tedious and horrible, but it was fun to rampage and see the various ways I could break the game.

LOI's "@crazy" difficulty should've been "@default." Too bad you have to steamroll the game once to even access it. I found that mode a fun little challenge, with the added stipulation of no healing items (old school!).

Wallmeat is indeed oldschool. Pocketmeat, on the other hand, most certainly is not!

Seriously, LOI's boss fights are a lot more respectable when you can't afford to get the shit kicked out of you thanks to a portable ICU.

Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow.
The graphics were bad [for the time even!], the battle system was totally bloody broken [Psychic FTW!], and it was horribly easy.

On the other hand, it is crack. My Yellow had 100+ hours on it. Maybe it doesn't fit the thread description then, but...
Granted, Gold/Silver fixed most of these problems [Psychic is no longer rape [but Steel is, if only because AFAIK only Fire and Water do any effective damage [and they're both super effective]] and it is one of the prettiest GBC games out there [especially thanks to some of the fancier raster effects]].
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Good point! Recently AVGN has critisized the same in Symphony of the Night - he said that it's too easy because you can recharge/level up anytime and overcome all troubles. That's true, SOTN had the same problems with decreasing difficulty, but unlike LOI it reeks awesomeness

This is true. Haven't played the 3D console CVs past Legacy of Darkness but carrying around steaming curry in your pocket makes me want to retcon Iga.

Dave Mirras Freestyle BMX 2.
I played the shit out of this game shortly after the Gamecube launch.
Gotta love the wipeout mode and the totally nonsensical tricks!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles | Commodore 64. - I remember clearing this and it was equally somewhat fun as it somewhat was a chore.

cools wrote:Dave Mirra BMX on the Dreamcast. I had a ripped copy that was missing the movies and music.

Glitchy, buggy, appalling frame rate issues - ugly as hell to look at and fiddly to play.

But because it was missing the background music, very zen in play. Almost CAVE like slowdown. Quite a tough challenge too, took me a long time to 100% it.

Totally crap game, but one of the best times I had on the Dreamcast. The sequels fix the glitches and slowdown, and as a result are absolute rubbish with no redeeming qualities whatsoever.
I thought that was a pretty good game. I'm a huge fan of Thrasher and when I found out the same dev was doing Dave Mirra I had to try it. Played the shit out of both the Playstation and the Dreamcast versions (had the same missing music bootleg), as well as Maximum Remix. The trick system was good, I had a lot of fun with the multiplayer and the challenges were pretty tough. Maximum Remix was pretty much the same game with new courses and even more ludicrous challenges.
Feedback will set you free.

as for that bad game that I play to completion and still enjoy… that game is Deep Blue on the Turbo Grafx - 16…
Oh, dude...no stinking *way* is it anywhere *near* as unfair or difficult as Deep Blue on the TG16. I could (still can?) get through Rastan on the SMS on one life, and I'm pretty darned sure that I could play it through without being hit (though I can't help swallowing the "poisonous air" in the caves of the last two boss dragons). Perhaps that's why I consider the game to be bad: I expected the game to be like the arcade original, which I *did* play before playing the SMS version.

But comparing it to Deep Blue? Oh, dude...not even in the same hemisphere.

When it comes to the SMS, there are several games that I think are darned great, the tops being R-Type (with Secret Stage!) and one kick-tail version of Alien Syndrome, which very well may have been *better* than the arcade original, though obviously not graphically. Rastan would be a pretty clear also-ran...but not one that I really regret playing. But buying? You bet.
I absolutely love Alien Syndrome too. I'll say that I am partial and probably bias to the SMS. Its my current favorite system and I am playing it everyday… for the past few months, I pretty much am playing something on the SMS everyday…

I only bring up Deep Blue as my contribution to the thread. I just had to come and defend Rastan first
As I say, Rastan is one of my favorites on the SMS and I always recommend it when people inquire about SMS games. Once the jumping is learned, the game is quite pleasant… I smh at people always putting down the SMS… such an underrated and underappreciated console (in the USA anyways).

and for another bad game I like to play, Chubby Cherub.
Chubby Cherub is a game with many flaws and issues, and is notorious for being bad, but I get kicks to play it and have fun when I do…

The Addams Family: Pugsley's Scavenger Hunt. Most people would dismiss it as a horrendously broken, slippery-slidey Mario clone, but I love it to pieces for the ridiculously fast pace. And it's one of the prettiest games I've ever seen on the SNES as well, with the vibrant colours and wacky designs. SNES version was the only one that wasn't complete ass though.

Ultraman Towards The Future for SNES.

Everyone hates it because the stiff control and odd collision detection make it hard and unsatisfying to play, but in my case, I've been able to overcome and mop the floor with the monsters. There is a certain satisfaction in overcoming the game's flaws and managing to hand it back its ass, on a silver plate. 8)

Oh, wow...upon re-reading the post you made, you're absolutely right! You didn't make *any* comparison between the two. I don't know where I came up with that! Strange. My mistake.

About Alien Syndrome: I got so stinking good at that game that I could just rock right through it on one life! Have you finished it? One of the things that really *really* impressed me with the game was the way they artificially increased the difficulty of the later levels by making the maze-like stage far more inticate and interesting, whilst making the clock nail-bitingly short. Makes/made for an absolutely *riveting* learning experience when you're just trying to get the heck out alive with a face.

I think, if memory serves, the hardest part of the game after really mastering it, was the catwalks in space in Stage 3 (I think), where you really had to be careful how you walked, or...instadeath. The control pad was patently *unhelpful* in this instance, and it always kind of made me nervous.

*Great* game.

It actually had some cool music, too.

the snes prequal (and it's PS1 port) weren't bad either

This isn't the "games which we all played as a kid and which were globally popular that you didn't really like but played anyway because David Jones in intermediate played too" thread.

There's no way Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow belong in this thread.

I can think of a few here:

Phantom 2040 on the sega gensis, I actually enjoyed the game, even got a few of the endings.
Judge Dredd, Sega genesis, Again I liked this one alot, beat the whole thing from start to finish took awhile, finally got to Judge death.

Novastorm on the Sega CD, I don't care what people think I loved this game, music was awesome, story was awesome, FMV's weren't awesome.
Microcosm, Sega CD. Again fukking awesome music story and bosses, best rail shooter ever made imho. Please play this game.

There's probably more can't remember though.
